I've been silently watching the forum and reading people's sigs. How many of you have or have had more than one Porsche at a time? It's fascinating.

Also, has anyone had a 968? I was told that due to the low production numbers, it will probably (and already is to some degree) be collectible and worth some money.

Just curious.

I am very jealous of people who have the income to own multiple. The only way I would have a chance of getting another would be to use my current 986 as a down payment.

I'll be on that level one day....

I've almost convinced the mother unit to get a cayanne. Once prices go down I really see a Macan in our families future.

It's just hard to only own one of these cars, me and my father have been scheming about 928s lately as well but don't want to take the plunge.

As for the 968 I think the convertible has beautiful lines and love when I come across one at car shows. They pop up on Craigslist for about the price of a 944 turbo pretty often, it's just Always a small selection of cars.

A 78 911SC and a 89 944S2. Daughter still fit in the back seat and both could be had at a reasonable cost at the time. The S2 was essentailly in new condition with just 17k on the odometer but had incurred almost 70% depreciation. The 78 SC I got at what now feels like was the buttom of the market. Bought it for $16k and sold it for $18k after owning it for three years and spending about $3k in maintenance and repairs. Cheap tranportation if you ask me. If I would have had the room I would have kept it but I didn't and I needed at least one car with more leg and headroom as my daughter out grew the back seat. I'm still resentful about the fact that she outgrew the SC.

I'm trying to justify to my wife the need for something larger than a three car garage. I'd happily trade house square footage for garage space. She not buying it......yet. The strategy is to get her more personally hooked on having her own Porsche again. It's addictive so I think my odds are pretty good.

After the 986 was paid off I was looking for an AWD daily driver. Picked up an 86 VW Quantum Syncro Wagon. Wife didn't get it. Moved on to an 06 BMW 325, but no AWD. Replaced that with a 99 Carrera 4. Checked all th boxes, wife loves it, and payments are cheaper than they were on the 986. 986 racecar and 996 C4 make a great combo.

I'm probably one of the worst offenders on the forum when it comes to these cars...

I've been driving and slowly gathering Porsche cars for the last 30+ years. My first was a '67 911 in college during the early '80s. Then a '78 924, a '87 944S, a '70 914 and a '90 944S2 cabriolet. All but the '90 944S2 cab are gone - it hides in my garage w/ 66k 2 owner miles. Along the way I gathered several $1,000 "project" cars - 3 1984 928S and a '71 914 - I still have them. 2 of the 3 928's will run and (sorta) drive, and the 914 will start with a shot of ether. 2 of the 928s and the 914 are tucked away for future restoration. One of the 928s I'm working a slow/steady restoration on.

Then my Boxster addiction hit, and hit pretty hard. I have 7. 4 1999s, a 2000 base, a 2001S and a 2002S. All are clean above average to excellent condition cars. Most have unique option packages (aero kits, different sport packages, unique colors, or are just a bad ass looking little car). I'm fortunate I have a big shop I rent for cheap to store everything and I'm able to do a fair amount of maintenance on them, but even then, it's an expensive hobby. When we talk about ~$1,500/yr for maintenance, that's a pretty realistic number.

I also have a '99 aerokit 996 in the mix and am looking for the right early Boxster to turn into a Spec racer.

Before anyone thinks that I can give mr.jonathanlada a run for his daddies money, if you add the cost of 7 early Boxsters and a 996, you'd come up with just enough money to buy a gently used 991 and have enough left over to go to the Cheesecake factory for dinner. And a gently used 991 and dinner at the Cheesecake Factory doesn't give you Baller Status...

The 986/996 cars are to me, the last of the Porsches that a regular guy can drive, work on a little, and have fun with. For me, it's a great hobby. I daily drive them, work on them, waste time here on the forum, scrounge bits and pieces off eBay, salvage yards and other places, take them to the track, and as important as anything, I've made great friends in the Porsche community that I can share fun and camaraderie with.

I've had 4 Porsches to date. Two 944 turbos and two Boxsters. I still have three of them but my youngest drive the 986 now. Even with three Porsches I still have the itch to buy one more. I'm keeping an eye on the Cayman GTS. I still have the itch to have a 911 but a standard 911 just haven't attracted my attention as much as the Cayman GTS.

I've been around 968's but have never owned one. It's basically an updated 944 S2. It is a great reliable car provided the timing belts and front seals are maintained. The 968 were produced from 1992-1995 so there's not many around. The 968 CS and the 968 turbo are very rare and prices for these are like the old air cooled 911's. Prices for standard 968's have gone up a bit in the last couple years but ones in great condition is hard to find.

It is always a joy when you post photos from your collection! You should start renting them out... Then again those cars deserve to be treated much better then a rental owner would. A gently used 991 sounds great but I think the value for money of your collection surpasses the 991 after the third box, 914, and one 928. Everything on top of that is just added fun!

When the day comes that this car is complete and hits the street, I'll be parking my Boxsters for about a year.

How do you like the 996 C4? I've thought about one of those as a more year round car. Of course, if money were no object I would have a 918 Spyder.

Then again, I've always loved the C6 corvettes too. Had a 74 vette when I was younger!

I've had 3 running at the same time. I'm down to just the Boxster now. I was known in the neighborhood as "they guy with all the Porsche's" I wanted to get bumper stickers for them that said "My other car is a Porsche"

The 99 C4 has been a great DD. In 2.5 yrs I've put 65k on the car. With Conti DWS tires (only 2 sets!) it has been fine in both rain and snow. Overall mpg has been just under 24. With the back seat, there's room for the dog and luggage.
With prices under 20k for well cared for cars, how can you go wrong??

I had a 968 and wish I had it back. Great little cars that will be appreciating. I have had 3 porsches for several years and just got down to 2, an 04 boxster S anniversary edition and a new Macan turbo. I am now where I need to be.

My 986 is my first Porsche, but it won't be my last.

One of the main reasons I got my car, was because my dad drove a very reliable 944 for about 15+ years. I'm trying to convince him to get back into a Porsche, probably a 996/997.
