1st gear plus parking brake always

Depends. On an incline, brake and gear.

If parked at a level parking spot, besides a café, with nice girls in it, on a warm sunny day, I park it with its top down and in neutral so I can turn on the ignition before getting in :)

I had a few SAABs. I am still programmed to put it in reverse when parking. SAABs only let you remove the key when it's in reverse. Always use the parking brake.

1st gear only, unless on a hill or putting the top up/down. In the winter emergency brakes can freeze here.

I do not use e-brake parking in garage. Sits there many days and brakes tend to stick

Parking brake and reverse for me in the garage, when parking outside the house it is usually parking brake and whatever gear I think I will drive off in, either 1 or R.

At the track, gear only and never the parking brake. I coast into my desired parking spot and shut off the engine with no foot brake or parking brake application.

Just curious. What is the logic for NOT putting the car in gear?

No reason to.
E-brakes are designed for that purpose. All of the "put it in gear" mania online is passed down from gramps and was valid 50 years ago or with cheap cars. I've heard all of the debate and none of it is convincing, just paranoia.
There's also the potential damage to the trans and engine if you are bumped even slightly by another driver.
If your e-brake isn't holding, fix it. Don't put a band-aid on the issue. ;)

Never in gear. I only use the e-brake in public. No gear or brake when in the garage or storage.

First gear - No E-Brake.
(Florida is flat)

From the Porsche Boxster manual:

When parked, always set the parking brake.
Move the PDK selector lever to ”P“ or the gear-shift lever to reverse or first gear.
On hills also turn the front wheels toward the curb.

I always use E-Brake and second gear.

Think of 1st as "park." Exact same function.

If you have auto box, use park AND parking brake.

Why would that be a problem? Doesn't the engine turn backwards when in reverse? :)

Both gear and parking brake. You'd be mad to only use one safety precaution when you have two available.

Or just crank your wheels toward the curb and not risk your drivetrain. :p

I was that guy, several months ago. She only moved about 5 feet before I could get to the brakes.
Only problem was, my Boxster rolled under a passing 'big' truck, and the trucks' tail gate lift frame dragged across the hood and frame. End story. my insurance totaled her, thank God that 'replacement value' has become the norm...

Wow nearly lost that E36 and no telling the damage and injury it could have caused. Strange to watch that same car is my daily driver but in white.....a truly awesome little car.

That's what I do. the risk of a distracted driver plowing into my rear and wrecking the trans seems greater to me than the car rolling away..especially if the wheels are turned to the curb.

Here is a good question, if you have an auto box, do you use the e brake as well? I find myself using it in any car I drive, just habit.

Something tells me that if I got a 981 pdk I would not use the brake just to spite the fact that it isn't a proper lever haha.
