I don't have the answer for you, but check the rods that operate the top. They have the plastic cups on one end and bolt into a lever arm on the other end. The other end of the lever arm moves the clamshell cover. If it is not doing 'dancing' with the front of the soft top, I would really suspect those pushrods even more. I suspect they are out of adjustment or have some worn bushings. . See if you can get some one to operate the roof while you watch those linkages.
