where are all the Porsches?

Just got back from a 3 day 1,000 mile trip across part of NC, all of TN, and part of KY and back. Interstates, back roads, city and rural driving. Saw quite a few PT cruisers, tons of BMW's, Hondas and everything else. And 1 Porsche the whole trip. Where are they?

Wrong time of year for them to be out (for some)? Garage Queens?

I know, that bugs me, too.

I'm old and it seems like every Porsche ad in the '60s showed a ski rack mounted.

Rugged, not fragile.

I saw more Porsches on the Twisted Sisters in one drive (down near Fredricksburg, TX) than I do in 6 months in this part of DFW. That was sweet.

I always amazes me that we see so few Porsches on the road and we are out there year round all over the country and rarely see any other than a few PCA group tours. Why do these people buy a great driving car and then not drive it?

I'm afraid I've fallen pray to the rarely driven Porsche
When I do drive it usually is longer distance but I don't see many either

When I first bought it, I drove to work everyday all year
Long drives still needed planning for 1-2 people, no dogs, no stuff
Now I use close by train into the city for work. The Boxster and my 4 door sedan sit in the garage
My 2 loan payments basically sit in the garage for weeks at a time while I mainly drive my 03 Jeep liberty (135k miles) everywhere close by

Every little pay increase, commuter discount, bonus, all adds up to let me justify keeping the Porsche. At least in my mind

I saw a mclaren 12C in a low income crack town called Piedmont in South Carolina this week, so who knows what's up.

I probably see around 5-6 a day. They are all over in Clearwater, Florida. I actually followed the exact same boxster as mine home yesterday!

A few weeks back Dallas got hit with a few inches of ice and snow. It looked like a war zone throughout the city with vehicles wrecked and abandoned on the side of the highway. I saw a Cayman S and a 996 driving around in it. Me personally, I would never drive a car I care about in the snow or rain.

For the past 2 weeks I've been working in Kansas and Oklahoma- I've seen a total of 2 Porsches. The week before I was in San francisco area and you couldn't throw a dead cat without hitting 5 of them found that interesting. I live in so cal and don't see too many but I do have days where I'll see several, mostly 911s and cayennes

It's water proof isn't it?

^ Haha!
With a good pair of snow tires, you won't have anything to worry about. I pass 2WD SUV's and trucks all day long when it snows. They seem to think summer tires or even all seasons make them immune to snow.

What scares me about DFW ice is everyone else. Driving home from work a couple weeks ago at 2AM half the cars I saw were spinning across the freeway. Doesn't help we have a lot of drunk drivers.

Others have said they've seen it in the general area a lot lately. The driver isn't a day over 30 either.

I live in California, I see them all day and every day of the year. I guess you just have to know where they live. Porsche = California

Porsches are plentiful in the Phoenix area. I work in Scottsdale with my office having a view of Scottsdale Rd and it's a virtual Porsche car show going by. Everything from the old stuff (saw a short wheel base 911S go by the other day) to late models.

On my last commute into NYC from NJ, at one point I had a 991(white) in front of me. A Panamera (black) in front of him. And a Macan (white) behind me.

The Macan is going to push Porsche over the 200K car mark for the first time in its history.
And the used car market is up to its eyeballs in water-cooled Porsches. $15K-$30K Carreras, Cayman/Boxsters and Cayennes as far as the eye can see.

On average, I usually see on every time I'm out -- some days, none, but other days, two or three or four. And if I want to see one every day, there's a guy around the corner with a '80s 911 Targa leaking oil all over his driveway.
