Anytime I revved my Boxster and launched from a standstill I'd get wheel-hop. I just took a 996 TT for a test drive and no matter what I tried it just hooked and went. Does your Boxster launch cleanly at say 3-4000 RPM's?

My 01 Boxster S does not wheel hop under those conditions. How are the struts and bushings?

He just put in the new style motor mount. I asked him if he got the side stops with it and he never answered back on it.

When I had wheel hop on my 2001S it turned out to be a bad shock/strut. Swapped it out and problem solved.

Boxsters all wheelhop if you really get on it. Not good for your pinyon bearing and may lead to failure. Learning to do a smooth launch without damaging the clutch or transaxle is a tricky business. If you like to do a lot of stoplight launches, add an LSD or start shopping for a spare trans.

FYI: A 996 TT is all wheel drive with LSD. They always launch great.

mine is a 99 2.5l with wider tires and it flat won't break traction on dry pavement. I have to be on wet pavement to get it to break loose. My son got the rear wheels to hop last night when he was accelerating in 2nd and missed 3rd and hit 1st instead. I hate teaching him how to drive a standard transmission in this car. I need to get the 76 914 running this summer so he can learn on that one.

I don't get any wheel hop with my '99 which has 19' on it with 275's on the back.
I know just where the clutch will "bite" and can launch fast and hard smoothly with no slip...

also, if you're going to teach someone to drive a sports car, learning how to correctly blip the throttle down shifting takes a huge load off the drive train...

Installing new ROW 030 struts helped a little just as a new front motor mount (had to re-use the side pieces) did. I always wondered how the newer cars equipped with the sports crono pac could spin to something like 6000RPM and than launch netting 0-60 times in the magical 3's and4's. For a short time I ran some old fronts (225's) on the rear and could hardly notice a difference (including launching)except as cornering speeds increased (and especially during transient maneuvers).

He hit 1st on a 2nd gear upshift?!
Seriously, buy an old Corolla, Civic or Cavalier for him to beat up on and wreck until he figures it out.
Probably less $$ that way than a clutch & tranny for the Boxster...

I have a UK made version of this. I can't say it stops axle tramp and I can't say I notice much difference in day to day driving. Hard to tell the difference when driving in extremis as I'm not measuring lap times and only going by feel.

I have a Tip so it's hard to get wheel hop and I've never experienced it but it does strengthen the suspension much like a strut tower bar. My trusted mechanic stated "it can't hurt." I only posted it for you as a lead so you could contact Pedro and ask him questions.

So are the braces stopping wheel hop or is a limited slip dif the only real cure?

I know. all of our other cars are automatics. I put him in one of the old ranch trucks a couple of weeks ago but its nearly impossible to stall. low gearing and big diesel engine.
