Max Rim Width

I have a 97 Boxster Base. Staggered rim setup of 7" front, 8.5" Rear. Does anyone know the maximum width Rim I can put on both front and back. Do they have to be staggered? Or, can you 4 same size rims?

I know there is some kind of wheel restriction to the 97 986, think it had to do with the wheel diameter, but a 986 can go 8.5" front and 10" in the rear no problem with stock suspension.

If you want the most out of the car, yes you have to go staggered.

I am running 225/40zr18 up front and 285/30/zr18 in the rear and it looks great.

I attempted to put some 11" width wheels from a 996 on my 986, the wheel hit the rear shock. I could start threading 2 of the wheel bolts but the other 3 wouldn't catch. I think with some 20 or 25mm spacers, they would fit but then I'm not sure how much they would stick out of the fenders. Not a bad thing if you like the mexi-flush look...

Telling only tire widht doesnt give you enough info about how wide wheels. ET numbers are needed too, of course. And after these you can alter the camber front and back and use even wider wheels. And still you can put undersize tires to wide rims if the rim sticks out of fender. Nuff said?

Still waiting for first correct numbers.. i have 10x18 et 40 back this summer with 255/35

You could go 275/35R18 on the 10" rim, but you would want to match the tire diameter the best you can so you would want 235/40R18 at the front.

Yes i know but with 10x18 et 40 that tire is too wide... 225 and 255 match optimally when 40 and 35 profiles

I run 19x8.5 +15 in the front with 215/35 and 19x9.5 with +10 in the rear with 225/35. Running it lowered 1.5 inches and rolled fenders though. I'm sure with higher offset you can achieve a much wider wheel. I was planning on 18x10/18x11 with a higher offset as my next set of wheels.

Too wide for what?

Tyre Size for Rim Size/Width Calculator - What's the best tyre size for my rim?

That's interesting. A 10" wide with with a 40 offset is supposed to fit perfect even with a 275 tire.
