Having owned two X 1/9's in the late 70's, I was excited when I heard the news of the Fiero. That was one hot selling car when it first came out! I rented a 2M4 in 1984 while in Seattle for business. It was ok, not a lot of power but coming from Fiat's that wasn't a big deal to me.

Thing was, the execution on the X was so much more efficient. The X had two usable trunks (sound familiar?), even with the top stowed in the front trunk. Spare tire behind passenger seat built into the firewall. Very cool! The biggest downside to the X's was corrosion and being under powered.

In all honesty, the first drives of the best sports cars I've every owned, an NA Miata and my Boxster S were that they reminded me of the 'go cart' feeling of the old X 1/9.

Never got that feeling with my first drive of the Fiero.
