$100K 97 Boxster???

A signature doesn't make this worth $100K to me. Am I wrong?

That's just stupid. It's an everyday '97, even if it tells the time in Gstaad "in Chicago, $50 bucks"!

It's $10K... did the seller correct the price or does someone need glasses?

Caveat emptor

Confused / uneducated Porsche owner or snake oil salesman?

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=481013316&zip=68164&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D68164%26startYe ar%3D2009%26maxMileage%3D30000%26sortBy%3Dderivedp riceDESC%26incremental%3Dall%26firstRecord%3D0%26e ndYear%3D2011%26modelCodeList%3DBOXSTE%26makeCodeL ist%3DPOR%26searchRadius%3D0%26trimCodeList%3DBOXS TE%257CS&startYear=2009&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0&endYear=2011&modelCodeList=BOXSTE&makeCodeList=POR&searchRadius=0&makeCode1=POR&modelCode1=BOXSTE&clickType=listing

He says:
1. 3 times that it is an S. However, the 5th digit in the VIN is an A (base).
2. 3 times it's stated that it's a manual trans. Yet pics 4 & 5 clearly show PDK.
3. Twice it's stated that it is a V6. At least he got the size right - 2.9, which also proves it's a base.

His asking price is OK for an S, but way too high for a base.

I've seen plenty of base models being sold as an 'S', but this one takes it a little too far:

When I sell my '03 S I'm going to claim that it is a Carrera GT. What the heck, at least they are both mid engine. If you are going to outright lie in an ad you might as well go all in.

Makes me want to troll them and ask if they'll trade even for an 'Audi R8' like this:

It's a V6. VERY RARE!

It's one thing to say a car has full leather or bi-xenon when it doesn't, but trying to knowingly foist a base off as an S is another. The guy in my example has painted his calipers red and changed the exhaust tip to a dual, so he seems to be knowingly trying to get S money out of his base. I sent him an email thru the ad and suggested he should correct his verbiage, but obviously nothing has happened. Maybe we should start a 986forum campaign to bomb him with emails.

He's asking $10K, not $100K. Still high but oh well.

At least it has a somewhat rare factory riveted wood/ leather steering wheel, $1,500 option back then. Not as cool as mine in red, though!

That's the PERFECT wheel and radio surround were I ordering a Bertram 50.

Never been a fan of Porsche's Arbor Day Edition but hey couldn't all those credits be applied against the diesel-gate fines - LOL

I appreciate classic wood steering wheels and shift knobs from vintage Porsches that the original Boxster 986 design concept came from. I’d prefer retro theme over modernizing updates with projector/ LED lights, big fat wheels, double DIN touch screen, carbon fiber bits, etc.... just IMHO. When I was searching for a 986 2 years ago that eventually replaced my 914, it has to be a silver over red leather car with old 550 soul.

But hey, whatever floats your boat!

Probably not much credit for cutting down mahogany trees for the steering wheels, but that fake wood plastic panels may count?
