yeah, I hear ya. Thumbs up for the effort someone invested, but each and every detail is soo not mine. I wanted to like it, but I just can't. I don't even want to ask why people don't have eyes for proportions (front fenders, nice idea but WAY too long).
My Boxster is definitely not an untouched and clean example, so I would say here:
To each their own.
Here, the best I could do in 5 mins:

I don't think Photoshop or a custom fabricator can fix it. I do like a lot of the elements of it though:
Seriously though, if I was looking to spend that much money for the elements of a 550 Spyder ($37,500 starting bid), I'd buy a nice fully built 550 replica.

Yep...you picked all the elements I did not like...almost. I can help it, but I really don't like those chairs in any Porsche, 911 or 986, looks wise they are an absolute no-go. No idea what Porsche was thinking (looks/design wise back then).
And the rear spoiler, what does that supposed to be?
Uhm...I am sure it cost a lot of money to do all that, but ...lol...37,500? That car looks like a hobby (spending $), not like an investment (earning $).

Well, for that car does NOT make a case for round Porsche headlights on the Boxster. Yikes. I don't get the fake engine grill on the trunk either.
To each his own I guess...

Round headlight can look good if done right.

OK, they did it in 1999. That explains some things.
And the headlights are out of an Mercedes E-Class. That's why they needed a kind of angle and the too long front fenders – which are made out of metal.
Much effort, but i have to admit i don't like it. Especially because it's not a modern interpretation, but has too much fake elements to get it looking kind of old.

No joke here. This one looks good, esp for the price. If I didn't have my 09 for sale, I'd prob be heading to Dallas to look / buy.

That interior is definitely black. Maybe an SE special order? Porsche will do just about anything for the right $$$.

Yes, black leather (I think they actually called it dark grey) interior was an option on the SE.

Black or maybe it was charcoal gray was an alternate interior color option for the SE's, my neighbor had one. I believe it also had a black top but he only had it from 2004 to about 2007 and my memory is a bit fuzzy on that.
Here is a very clean low mileage, one owner 99 Boxster for sale in NJ. $20 k seems quite high but I hope he does well on the sale. Maybe PCA classifieds or an auction is a better place for him to get a good price.

My father and I built that car.
The headlights are mercedes e class, and the fenders are 100% metal. There are many small custom touches, like no third brake light, genuine 550 spyder grab handle, and more I can’t reme offhand.
I agree the retro theme went overboard as rear grilles, headlight stone guards, James Dean there ( ) and taillight covers are a bit much.
However, you must remember this car was built when the 986 was a couple years old and a common complaint were the “fried egg headlights”.
This is the car that got me into Boxster. Coincidentally, my own Boxster is Artic Silver

Anyone into off-roading? Maybe the guys on Road Kill would like it - they seem to have a desert fetish.
