$9000 for a '97 that needs parts, including a "control module"? But it is the extremely rare 5 cylinder engine...

986 550SE at $18,000 on BAT

The auction on the 9k miles tiptronic 550SE ends in ~3 hours. Current bid is $18,000.

I suspect that's below Reserve, but maybe not. If someone wants a Tip, that would be an awesome buy at $18k

and it’s also the rare ‘cupe’ body style

Yeah, I don’t think it has hit the reserve yet either but it depends on how motivated the seller may be. Last couple of minutes of the auction should be interesting.

The RS60 sold for $32,750

The 550SE tip bid to $23,800 with five or six active bidders but it did not meet the reserve so ‘no sale’.

Wow, that's a good (as in high) price for an '08. I would have figured upper $20's.

$23,800 is a very reasonable selling price for that car, reasonable for both buyer and seller. I guess the Seller thinks it's worth $25,000 or more.

Some sellers think that a 2004 car with 9,000 miles is worth the same as a 2009 car with 9,000 miles, because, according to them, it's "just as used".

I agree that 23,800 seems to be about right for that particular SE. But it’s more than just a 2004 car with 9,000 miles. It’s a 550SE of which there are only ~500 in the US. Agree with it or not, on average it’s currently the highest value production 986 and probably will remain so. It has all the marketing paraphernalia which collectors love along with enough production differentiation to make a discernible difference to people who care about that kind of stuff.

For me, I just drive mine and enjoy it, it’s a well cared for 108k miles driver

I fully understand that the 550SE is a special car. Which is why I said $23,800 seems like a fair price. If it were just a 2004 Boxster S with 9,000 miles, I would say $17k - $19k might be a fair price, at least in a private party sale. Auctions always inflate prices.

If you want to get away from IMS worries!

No affiliation but I've seen and driven this car. Been bumped into a couple of times but actually looks pretty good. Weird steering wheel and passenger seat has some marks. Runs good.
Car has been sold. I'm sure I'll see it for sale around here again next year!

I was interested in this low mileage car. If I could source a engine for a reasonable price it might be an interesting project. The price is high considering Boxster rollers go for 5,000.
I emailed the guy too, no reply :ah:

even got the home address (from a cop) where the car was at, but didn't feel like going there if he/she did not reply - it was in Chapel Hill

"it was professional repaired, however the car was left in the shop for over 18 months and suffered overspray, there are tons of money and parts was put in to repair the car"

But they must have just run out of money before purchasing a gas door and radiator grilles. Guess all their ca$h went into the quality paint job.

Enjoy a good chuckle:

It looks like they used nail polish instead of paint. File under POS.

The quality of the paint job is only exceeded by the quality of the guy's grammar.

Also: "involved in an minor accident" & "salvage rebuilt title"

Yeah, that part of the story doesn't add up. He says he paid $19K for it, had a "minor" accident, and somewhere along the line the title became salvage. Fishy, fishy. Either he overpaid for an 05 base with a salvage title or he had more than a minor accident.

But the 60K engine would be almost worth the asking price. 50-50 chance it has a replaceable IMS.
