I just saw this on Tulsa Craigslist, Not very far from me and it's an SE with 'Flood' on the car fax. I just can't see having two SEs though. Maybe I should buy it and put the dashboard and floor mats in mine?

isn't the one on you tube a forum member here? i thought i saw some posts about that car a few weeks ago. if it is the same car and it wasn't listed for sale on here as well, does that mean something? i know he got the car running but that car definitely was in a flood and the CL ad says other wise so i'm hoping it's a different car.

I just thought it odd that there is another, very similar '04 SE with flood damage for sale only about 30 miles from me.
As for mine, I've grown attached to it after going through the process of bringing it back and have no intention of selling it. - I like mine more than any I've seen for sale.

yep that's the one! i'm glad this is a different car because if not it would have been very misrepresented in that CL add. I am still very impressed with what you've been able to do with yours, keep it up, and i haven't seen an update in a while!

It doesn't take much to fill the floorboards an inch deep in water and short out the immobilizer box; that happened to one of my Boxsters the first time it came a heavy rain. The drain holes in the 'aprons' that catch the runoff from the convertible top are small to begin with and the slightest clogging will reduce their flow capacity significantly, and the overflow goes right into the rear floorboard area.
It costs about $750 to get the immobilizer repaired so you can put it back in your Boxster with now-sodden carpet so you can enjoy the smell of mildew, just as if it were an MGB or Lotus Elan.
The factory picked the worst possible location for this device. It would best be located on the rear trunk firewall near the engine control unit.
My solution(s): a) drill holes about 3/8" in the floor under the immobilizer location and rear floorboards--God forbid, drilling holes in a Porsche! Take care to avoid structures on the underside!
b) have an extra floor carpet in your car's color clean, dry, ready to install;
c) watch the weather forecast carefully;
d) fit the waterproof plastic box kit that replaces the factory box , so as to protect the circuit board better.
By now I have become very practiced at changing the carpet out of Boxsters, and can do it in about four hours, not including the time to clean the wet carpet and put it away to dry. The dense foam on the back of the carpet that damps sound so well holds water equally well. A wet carpet in a Boxster will stay wet for many months.
The labor costs for a stealership to do this would be quite a few hundred bucks, and far more if they insisted 'must replace carpet', so I can easily understand why an insuror would write off the car even though it may be otherwise unharmed, hence the salvage title.
If the car had the carpet removed, cleaned and dried while the immobilizer was off for repair I would not have any reservation about buying the car.

Changing carpet this week, you busy? Lotsa beer involved.  Mine is more sun & dry rot inflicted than water infliltrated. Sonoran desert, you know.

yeah, I hear ya. Thumbs up for the effort someone invested, but each and every detail is soo not mine. I wanted to like it, but I just can't. I don't even want to ask why people don't have eyes for proportions (front fenders, nice idea but WAY too long).
My Boxster is definitely not an untouched and clean example, so I would say here:

I don't think Photoshop or a custom fabricator can fix it. I do like a lot of the elements of it though:
Seriously though, if I was looking to spend that much money for the elements of a 550 Spyder ($37,500 starting bid), I'd buy a nice fully built 550 replica.

Yep...you picked all the elements I did not like...almost. I can help it, but I really don't like those chairs in any Porsche, 911 or 986, looks wise they are an absolute no-go. No idea what Porsche was thinking (looks/design wise back then).
And the rear spoiler, what does that supposed to be?
Uhm...I am sure it cost a lot of money to do all that, but ...lol...37,500? That car looks like a hobby (spending $), not like an investment (earning $).

Well, for that car does NOT make a case for round Porsche headlights on the Boxster. Yikes. I don't get the fake engine grill on the trunk either.
