The Boxster GT

Don't laugh, but as a Porsche enthusiast I couldn't say no! For $3k in the mountains of Pennsylvania, I found this: Its horrible what they did to this poor Boxster, but I couldn't just let it go to the dump. Its a 98' Boxster with a Carrerra GT shell on it. It was literally it a swamped barn with the roof caved in on it.

SUV is the translation of truck to "suburbanese". As in not a car... :p

You didn't hear about the PSC (Porsche Select-o-Color) Option? It's about as popular as PSM :D

Actually, I thought the ad says 2 for 6000.

One of my old girl friends called her 4 runner atruck. She was not happy about being corrected on that. I guess to some if it's not a car it's a truck. I have a Polaris rzr and some folks call those a bike I always thought a bike had 2 wheels.

Poor baby! You know what they say about inexpensive Porsches? There is no inexpensive Porsche. (I know from experience.)

Don't you just love it when owners post pictures of their instrument cluster in their Craigslist ads? Especially with warning lights and messages.

So, is that not just how it looks when the key is on, but the motor isn't started?

I don't know, mine isn't anywhere near that new, hahaha

The tach is reading 625 so it's running.

But yeah, a lot newer than mine, too! ;)

$400 for a no-motor 944 isn't bad. Looks pretty good otherwise.

Racer Boy 08-28-2019 05:57 PM

A $400 944? I recently saw a 944 with a recent Chevy small block. It fit just fine, and I bet it's a lot of fun to drive. Might make a fun project car!

rexcramer 08-29-2019 04:28 AM

Located in Houston, I wonder if that 944 was under water recently?

elgyqc 08-29-2019 04:40 AM

I like the wheels... and the front view is not bad... and no IMS worries!

I wonder if the $7975 price is what he will pay someone to get rid of it for him.

+1! I'd rather deal with IMS than drive around in that hideous thing.

No such thing as a perfectly good Fiero. I used to have Fieros, just the thought of having anything to do with one makes me want to vomit! They were awful cars, no perfomance, poor quality, and hard to work on. GM had some good ideas, but the execution of those ideas was emasculated by the '80's bean counters.

PaulE 08-31-2019 05:20 PM

I just saw that Fiero on Hartford Craigslist. Waste of a good Boxster front bumper, fenders, hood and headlights!

Well i never owned one but it seems they kinda figured things out on them in the last year of production (1988 I think?) and in GM's wisdom is when they pulled the plug.
Sometimes a good idea or concept needs some development time but American manufacturers don't have patience for that like our European and Japanese friends do.

dghii 09-02-2019 11:59 AM

Having owned two X 1/9's in the late 70's, I was excited when I heard the news of the Fiero. That was one hot selling car when it first came out! I rented a 2M4 in 1984 while in Seattle for business. It was ok, not a lot of power but coming from Fiat's that wasn't a big deal to me.

Thing was, the execution on the X was so much more efficient. The X had two usable trunks (sound familiar?), even with the top stowed in the front trunk. Spare tire behind passenger seat built into the firewall. Very cool! The biggest downside to the X's was corrosion and being under powered.

In all honesty, the first drives of the best sports cars I've every owned, an NA Miata and my Boxster S were that they reminded me of the 'go cart' feeling of the old X 1/9.

Never got that feeling with my first drive of the Fiero.

This could have been my story! I owned a 1978 X1/9 from '79 till '85 and never got that go kart feeling again till I bought my Boxster In 2014. And yes, corrosion and lack of power were its bugaboos, along with suspect electrical items.
