Great Buy

odometer: 9255 for a 2000 is crazy. 514 miles per year can't be enough enjoyment for a Boxster. Makes me wonder what all needs to be replaced with all the sitting this car has done.

At that price it is what a friend calls an ego listing...

Could simply be a 'wifey listing'... as in:
Husband: "Sure honey, you're right. We oughta get rid of one of the cars. Let's sell the Boxster since it's oldest. Go ahead and take a few pix so you can put on Craigslist.

Wife: "Great honey - thanks so much for agreeing. How much should we ask?"

H: "Book value shows Boxsters w/ only 9,000 miles sell for $22k with all our options. Seems really fair since we paid $55k for new. List at $20k and let's see what happens.

W: " Honey you won't believe all the scam calls I keep getting offering $7.5-10k for our beautiful car."

H: "You're right honey that's not nearly enough. We oughtta just keep but at least you tried hard though."

W: "Yeah, absolutely. Can't believe people would think we're that stupid - it's a Porsche."

H: "If you insist dear"
Haver heard this worked for a friend once or twice ;)

Wow, for the price I could almost consider this.

I can kinda give the rack a retro nod, but the bumper stickers are too much.

kirkandorules 01-26-2018 05:58 AM

does it include the bubblejet printer?

Luggage rack? Give them a 2nd Porsche card. That means they actually USE their Porsche for what it was made for. Driving and taking real trips.

You know what should actually be grounds for revocation of your Porsche card? How many miles you drive your Porsche.

This couple logged 76,000 miles in 8 years, which is more than most "polish with a diaper garage queen" Porsche owners can say.

I may have been too harsh about the luggage rack. I was going to say they have 2 trunks for their stuff, but maybe they're strapping on a pair of skis.

Also agree about putting miles on, but being in LA if they have a 20 mile commute 1-way, they could easily run up that kind of mileage in 8 yrs as a DD. Hopefully they used it for more than DD. The luggage rack probably says it was more than a DD.

But the bumper stickers are still inexcusable.

You can find Caymans with similar mileage for the same price............with a working transmission. And being sold by someone with a firm grasp of the English language.

Just sayin'............

The clear bra that's all cracked up is a liability. Is it possible to remove it without ruining the paint?

Geof3 02-02-2018 08:39 PM

Here's one... Easy fix. No problem. Only 18k

PaulE 02-03-2018 12:19 PM

Here is a z-top 97 Boxster. It looks like the clamshell lines have been filled in, so the z-top is not reversible without paint and bodywork. The $20k asking price seems pretty high to me.

I rather like the colour.
Guess you’d have to see it in person but the damage doesn’t look too extreme.

I'm betting it's a bait car add. There's all kinds of similar adds down here with wrecked muscle or exotic cars for sale. I don't think it's a ploy to steal from you outright but more lure you into using their services to find one. Basically they're a middle man for the insurance auctions.

husker boxster 02-04-2018 05:32 AM

By the time you got it fixed, you'd have the cost of a '13 base 981 into it. Yes, it's an S but it would have a branded title. Think I'd rather have a base 981 with a good title.

Just replaced water pump and coolant tank. That tank was a bear!!! Runs nice needs a motor mount and a new oil fill pipe. AOS replaced already. Other than that pretty solid car.....Fingers crossed.

husker boxster 02-19-2018 04:22 PM

Better jump - he just dropped the price from $49K to $39K. Won't last long.

From the 2 pics, it looks like a solid car to start a resto on, but how do you know? Does it need all the parts he listed or is he just emptying his garage? It doesn't look like it has any seats in it. And I'm not a Pontiac guy, but I thought all SEs were gold int, not black. And it's an auto, not a 4spd. No way you get that kind of $$$ for an auto, even if it was already restored. Maybe he's not dumb in asking a crazy price. Someone might be high on crack and buy it. He can always incrementally knock another $30K off before he enters the ballpark.

FoxRvrBox 02-20-2018 12:44 PM

On the black TA, the ad says "some parts are missing from the car" near the bottom of the ad. He is selling this on the basis of the build sheet for someone to wan to restore it to match.
