Adding Cruise Control
I have 2004 Boxster S, I'm adding Cruise Control, (use a Book "101 Projects for Your Porsche Boxster")
I'm at the point of connecting the four wires to the Motronic DME to the Gauge Cluster & stalk, book say add the pins into the empty slots (rear of Motronic DME) according to the table. which table???, the only one I see is for the stalk to the cluster.
Need help.

Lets see...
as stated, 2003-04 Boxsters don't need wiring to the Motronic...stalk to gauge cluster is all, as explained in the tables (2nd table is for 2003-04 Boxsters).
Should be easy for your model
I gave up on cc-mod, as no one really seems to know what to do with a MY2001 Boxster with a 2004 996 gauge cluster...I asked on the pelicanparts website.
My question was: How would i wire the cruise control connector in case of a 2001 Boxster with a 996 2004 gauge - Motronic or Instrument Gauge?
Followup from the Pelican Staff: I have not done the modification on your vehicle with the 996 cluster. It might be very similar, especially if the 996 cluster was plug and play.
I opened a post in our forums. A Pelican community member may be able to answer your question.- Nick at Pelican Parts

mpembry, you don't go back to the DME.
All your connections are at the dash and one wire for power goes to the fuse panel, thats it. Like most things on the 04, they are a bit easier to do than the earlier years.
Here's is a posting of when I did mine, check it out.

As you are probably aware, there are two different types of clusters for the 996 and 986. For simplicity sake I will call the one for the 97-00 Boxster the "old" style cluster and the second "new" type is for the 01-04 Boxster and the 02-04 Carrera. The circuit board and connectors for the "new" style clusters are identical for the 996 and 986. However, you cannot use a "new" style 996 cluster on a 986 which came with an old-style cluster. For more information on the internal workings of the 986 and 996 clusters, check this out: http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/377-programming-a-carrera-instrument-cluster-for-transplant-to-a-boxster/
If it was my car, I would feel very confident that the cruise control DIY instructions for the 986 would work on a Boxster equipped with a 996 cluster. However, it is your car and you would need to assume any risk associated with the mod.
Good luck.

Now, if anyone can just do a full write-up of adding Cruise Control to the early (non-e-gas) Boxsters...

Thanks for your thoughts and insights on that matter, KevinH1990, the 101projects book and renntech.org was my main source of information, when I did my gauge cluster transplant project back then.
I think it is like you said and I might give it a try someday...but it is not really on my priority-list anymore

That thread has very little on how to retrofit cruise to a non-e-gas model. I've been looking for a way to do this for a while, and this is the best option I've seen so far.
CCS100 Cruise Control
It's an aftermarket generic cruise control kit. A buddy of mine has installed them on a couple of cars and several motorcycles and says they work really well.
I'm likely going to order one this spring. If I do then I'll take a lot of pics and do a write-up for the forum.

I am doing the retrofit now to my MY98. There is a good document on RennTech and I'll post it here. When I'm done I'll post my experience here.
UPDATE - here is a link to the thread on renntech. The document is at the end.
I'm ready to complete my install except I'm missing some connector pins.

I have the connector pins, they are the same as my 4 stalk OBC harness. If I knew how you wanted it wired I could make up a harness

Hi Dwight - the connector pins I need hook up to the : - Stop Light switch - I need 1. These look like 1/4" push-ons but need to fit the connector housing. I think these are the often discussed "VW repair wire" but I'm not sure.
- Bridge Points behind the fuse block. I need 3. I'm not sure if these are the same as the Stop Light switch. I think they are P/N 999.650.320.22 or 999.650.321.22
- Diagnostic connector - I need 1. I have no idea what this one looks like.
I don't think any of these are normally used in the OBC upgrade, but if you have any of them I'd be interested.

connectors
The female connector for the Bridge Points does not look anything like the female connectors for the stop light switch. Sorry I do not know the numbers but I had the same issues and they are completely different.

Here's where I'm stuck - trying to make a connector for the cruise control actuator:

You need the female plug and I have an extra one if you want it. However I DO NOT have the female wire connectors that go in the plug. I could never get them to work correctly so I bought a plug from a dismantler with the wires sticking out and used crimp connections.

If you have not looked at this site ....you need to!!!! read the whole thing!!
How to - Upgrade to a 996 Instrument Cluster - How To - www.BoXa.net
error is most like due to the fact you do not have the 2 wire sender unit, 1 for the light and the other for the gauge. He suggested a fix for that short of putting in the correct sender and running the extra wire. But first see if his first suggestion works. Jeff
You need to make the cluster think it has an oil pressure sender. When the car runs there is a resistence of 200-1500 ohms. Buy one of the yellow VW wires like you used for your trip computer retrofit. Cut it in half and solder inline a 500 ohm resistor. One end of the wire goes in the connector to the cluster - just like when you did the trip computer. It goes in the blue connector - slot 5 - which should be unused as you do not have a pressure sender. Ground the other end of the wire. Peter did not mention any special place for the ground, so try the same place you used for the ground wire when you did the trip computer retrofit. No one has done this so I hope it works
.B5 on you connector should be empty as that is for the oil pressure sender wire that the Boxster does not have. That is where you will try Peter's hack.
B2 on your connector should have a wire since it is the same for a Boxster/996/turbo.
DME CODING. A procedure has been used to successfully code a 986 DME as a 996, code the instrument cluster to C2 Cabriolet and finally recode the DME back to 986. I would strongly suggest that the person following this procedure be an experienced PST2 / PIWIS operator. There are several steps (key strokes) needed to accomplish the coding.
http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62435
This is the most complete write up I have seen yet.
They talk about gauges BUT also cruiser control.
They say cruise has to be programed in BOTH the DME and the cluster.
This seems to match what the Porsche dealer said to me today when they returned my car.
I'll try and give you some more up-dates and pictures over the weekend.
