One thing that irritated me about the Pioneer is that if you want to use App Radio, you need to use USB1 and the HDMI input. If you want to use Car Play than you also have to use USB1 but not the HDMI.

Since I did not want a bunch of cables hanging out of my dash (there is also USB2 and Aux), I got a couple of adapters and mounted them in my cubby.

Here are a couple of pics.

I like the look of that , i was going to hard wire my radar detector but then though I would lose the smart cord.

You can buy a hardwired smart cord. That is what I have. It is wired into the Aux Phone power.

JPC - I love the look of a) the bezel surrounding the unit and b) the fact that you’ve managed to incorporate the USB dock into the back of your cubby. Are you able to direct me to somewhere I can buy the former (can’t find anywhere on the internet! Is there a part number for this retrofit option)? Did you punch a hole in the cubby yourself? If so, any advice? If not, is there somewhere I can purchase one?

Many many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the compliment! The bezel was part of the install package I got when buying the unit from Crutchfield. For the cubby, I did cut the holes myself. I used a "hole bit" for my drill I picked up at Harbor Freight. Same type of bit you use when cutting a door knob hole. The usb and aux plugs are available on eBay.
