Rear spoiler ideas?
The back of the Boxster IMO is kind of lacking, looking for something to kind of beef it up and thinking a spoiler could help...but many of the results on Google were disgusting.
http://www.renntech.org/forums/uploa...1303818602.jpg No offense if that car is anyone here, just not my taste at all. |

I love this guy's car and spoiler. Definitely better looking than yours anyway! |
I have also hoped to find one for both the boxsters and the c 4, but most of the ones I find are still pretty small and insignificant looking. Most of the ones I find for the boxster I think sit too far forward on the trunk lid and just look like a frog sitting on the rear of the car. I have not been able to find one that looks like it belongs on the car. Will be interested to see what others find.

Here you go. Nice low profile and no 3rd brake light.
Crud, the link I gave wasn't for the sell of the spoiler. I'll look for it. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjAwWDkwMA...cZ!~~60_57.JPG I can't find a link selling that spoiler. I want that spoiler so when I find it, I'll post back here. You could look for it too and post back if you find it for sale. That's if you're interested in this one. . |
The cars design doesn't lean itself well to a spoiler, there is no slab of a rear end like a gtr or anything to put one on. You'll notice cars with flat rear ends are what look good with spoilers, think WRX. I think the best thing you can do to improve the car without taking a step back, is the cayman style spoiler where the current one already is.

Well, some inspirations for the guys who need to compensate. :D

actually something that is missing from the market - 986 wing base / ducktail that replaces the oem spoiler. there are a few out there that mount higher up the trunk so as to keep the oem spoiler, but they tend to look very 'aftermarket'. probably doesn't exist as most of the boxster racing development is for spec cars that keep the spoiler.
|
I would like to see a subtle spoiler that would bolt/screw onto the top of the existing OEM retractable spoiler. It would breakup the smooth line in the down position and hopefully look good when at speed in the up position. Does anything like that exist ?

I've been looking for a tasteful spoiler that actually flows with the car for years. I've decided to make my own. |
There was a OEM Tequipment Porsche Spoiler for the 986. But not a bolt on the original one. This was part of the Aerokit (XXA).
http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/5316_large.jpg If you want a big rear spoiler, i think you also need a wide body. Something like this: http://www.csr-automotive.de/ebaybil...6_exklusiv.jpg http://www.csr-automotive.de/ebaybil...6_exklusiv.jpg http://www.csr-automotive.de/ebaybilder/HSK986B_V2.jpg http://www.csr-automotive.de/ebaybilder/HSK986B.jpg But i have to say i like the smaller version without rear spolier more: http://www.csr-automotive.de/ebaybilder/HSK986_Heck.jpg http://www.csr-automotive.de/ebaybilder/HSK986.jpg Regards Markus |

Here's what the Aerokit I rear spoiler looks like. It removes the pop-up spoiler and adds a longer decklid that extends to cover the gap where the pop-up spoiler lived. The Aerokit II kept the original deck lid and spoiler and just added the spoiler. Both I and II have a 3rd brake light w/in the body of the spoiler. JMO the Aero I spoiler is the way to go.

The Porsche engineers do not refer to the Boxster "spoiler" as a "spoiler" they call it an air dam. The design, with the wide piece of metal attached to the part we call a spoiler, is to channel a large volume of air that keeps the rear end stable at high speeds. They also do not recommend removing the metal dam as it changes the dynamic of air flow at higher speeds.
The Boxster design, especially the rear, is so clean I can't imagine bolting one of those hideous things to it and possibly changing the handling. |

How many HP will I gain if I add one???
|
Every car group has the smart ass that has nothing to add except for a snide useless comment.
I do kind of like that Cayman spoiler, some type of "whale tale" addition to the factory one would be nice. I don't want some flashy aftermarket Fast and Furious crap, I'm just trying to find something subtle that basically looks factory. To me the proportions of the Boxster are kind of off, the front and back are basically the same. |
Screw duck-tail, whale-tail is the way to go lol
$30, good old fiberglass, ebay endorsed and all. Beat that! Leaving your fingers where the trunk slams will lead to instant amputation. Not one of the lightest kit lol Had to add something disgusting to it sorry http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/081380019955.jpg |

An "opinion on spoilers" thread and you whine about a small joke? You must be a joy to live with.....not sure the pics of the mega spoilers helped either, but I laughed.. Snide? Really? I never said he would never find one that looked good. I'm watching this thread myself, thanks. |
I actually like the RWB spoiler.... Screw me right? :D
|
You will have to balance a large spoiler with some kind of front equivalent in order to maintain handling at speed so add that to the cost and weight you will be adding. Weight robs performance but to each his own. One of the main reasons I like the Boxster design is the smooth rounded lines un- encumbered by "spoilers" etc. I am delighted that the rear 'air dam' comes up only when needed then tucks away out of sight. Just my dos centavos but then I am an old guy and what do I know. Fashion can be a cruel master.....;)

Is something like this more in line with what we are looking for?

It sure would be nice to have a valid spoiler thread that wasn't always ruined by the same useless crap. Oh, and while we are on the subject of dumb-assery, this "he" you refer to (the OP) is the same person you were addressing in that reply. Do you always address the person you are talking to by "he" or "she"? "You" is more appropriate in those situations  Reading is haaaaard! :( |

you can buy the ebay product to convert the 986 to cayman style, or actually use a cayman rear spoiler (required modification of the rear bumper cover as per cheetah). fluid987 make some really nice exaggerated cayman style spoilers, but none that work for the 986: http://static.wixstatic.com/media/32...0_0.00_jpg_srz otherwise, if you want to retain the 986 style spoiler but add a lip to the top of it, there was a product out (by I think a Swedish company) that did something like that but can't find a pic anywhere anymore so most likely no longer available. edit!!! found it: http://www.auto-gruppen.se/webshop/styling_eng/produkter/bilstyling-exterior/kjolpaket-kaross/porsche/boxster/vingar.html |

Clearly there is an opening for a well engineered, light weight, and good looking mod for the back end of the 986s. Maybe some day Nine8six will get that DIY thread going? |

+1.
I see that the OP is fairly new here and judging by his reaction/comments, he probably does not understand the kind of camaraderie on this forum (yet). Timco is as nice and helpful as they come - I will vouch for him personally as I am sure also will a lot of other members on here. As far as his comment goes, I certainly enjoy a little humor thrown into the mix so I see nothing wrong with it. I understand that not everyone finds the same things funny, but it does't hurt to play nice fellas! Now back to the topic and lets all focus on the joy of owning a Boxster and discussing our opinions and ideas in an open forum. Happy Boxstering! Quote:

Love is in the air at the this glorious time of the year.
Ding Dong Ding Dong, Christmas bells are ringing! |
If you remove the air dam how are you gonna confuse people when you pass them with things like this:

Sometimes a sticker is all you need! Keep the well functioning spoiler but slap a sticker on. |
Great, so now its a "show us your @ss thread".

"A valid spoiler thread." [lol] And 43 is NOT old....... |
Aerokit 1 is the best 986 spoiler mixed with aerokit 2 bumper and skirts.
