This never would have happened if VW weren't calling the shots now.

Even with a power deficit of 20-25 HP to a base Carrera... a lighter, lower COG, mid-engine and shorter wheel base Boxster "GT4" (now with wider front plant over the 987 Spyder) will still be quicker than the base Carrera or a Cayman GT4. And if they add RWS to make it behave like a still shorter wheel base car = more quicker. This would be beyond 996.2 GT3 performance, maybe even 997.1 GT3. Wait until the car magazines start track testing the 370 hp "chick car" against other Porsches, Audis and Bimmers. Much head-scratching ensues. "you mean no weight on top and engine in the middle is good?".

Question is will the typical Porsche buyer snap out of this mentality of "well I could have a big grand touring Carrera for that price!". That's not going to happen unless VW put some big marketing dollars behind its promotion. Porsche will no doubt be asking for a big premium on this car.

speaking of which... I still would like to see a mini C7 Stingray convertible with similar proportions of a Boxster and a slight downsizing of power to keep the handling civil. Basically a Boxster GT4 with a 30-40% discount and warranty claims that aren't rejected for stepping onto a track like Porsche do its customers.
