A Boxster/Cayman to Surpass the 911?
You think Porsche would bring this to production? Not a lot of specifics, but wow 370-400 hp?
911 beware! Porsche testing new top-trim Boxster DBear |
The question is, what's under the hood? Does it get a 9k redline like the gt3?! Does it plug into the wall and have a boost mode like the 918?! Or does it have whooshing turbos like a 911 turbo?!
Being a gt4 it is likely something unconventional. Fingers crossed for info from the Detroit motor show! |
The Cayman GTS is rumored to have 370hp, which is probably about right for Porsche - a nice jump up from the GTS yet under 400 so as to not threaten the 911.
It's too bad Porsche arificially holds this platform back. The last I heard, the turbo 4 is off, but it's been on and off several times. |
Wow! vvvvvvvvvvv

IMO....both the new Boxster and Cayman look much better and more correctly proportioned then the new 991 911. The bump in performance is icing on the cake.

This never would have happened if VW weren't calling the shots now.
Even with a power deficit of 20-25 HP to a base Carrera... a lighter, lower COG, mid-engine and shorter wheel base Boxster "GT4" (now with wider front plant over the 987 Spyder) will still be quicker than the base Carrera or a Cayman GT4. And if they add RWS to make it behave like a still shorter wheel base car = more quicker. This would be beyond 996.2 GT3 performance, maybe even 997.1 GT3. Wait until the car magazines start track testing the 370 hp "chick car" against other Porsches, Audis and Bimmers. Much head-scratching ensues. "you mean no weight on top and engine in the middle is good?". Question is will the typical Porsche buyer snap out of this mentality of "well I could have a big grand touring Carrera for that price!". That's not going to happen unless VW put some big marketing dollars behind its promotion. Porsche will no doubt be asking for a big premium on this car. speaking of which... I still would like to see a mini C7 Stingray convertible with similar proportions of a Boxster and a slight downsizing of power to keep the handling civil. Basically a Boxster GT4 with a 30-40% discount and warranty claims that aren't rejected for stepping onto a track like Porsche do its customers. |
They already praise the 981 to the moon and back, and said it was arguably a better buy than a 991 base model. Then out came the GTS, which is even better, honestly a super sports car at that point, comparable to a ferrari 360 or maybe even 430. Now with a gt4, with hopefully rear steer torque vectoring and grunt warranting the gt namesake, it will be killer. Now let's just hope that while it may not have a 3.8, the engine will be a completly different design than the regular boxster motors, similar to porsches other gt cars.
Lastly, let us hope it doesn't catch fire randomly. |
Agreed...the 911 is just a little too long looking but I suppose its the long wheel base for handling that tricks the eye......spent time going over a new GT3. It was just huge on the outside.....like how would I be at placing this thing where I want it? I am sure once you are in it and moving all of that fades away
A beautiful looking machine no the less. |
Glad to see someone is finally listening. Build the the best Boxster and let cards fall where they fall.
