I'm pretty sure it's totaled.

Some dumb a$$ plowed into my parked car this morning. Police estimate he was going 50~60 MPH when he hit the car. No skid marks at all. He might have be on something. I'm kinda sure that the insurance will total it. What do you think?

Total bummer, man!

Ouch. Was surprised they told you 50-60mph...if so, then I'm impressed. I would have thought more damage would occur...what's the normal speed limit on the street?

Sadly, it doesn't take much to cause a total loss...some of the guys who purchase / part out cars would probably be of help...if the damage got into the frame my guess would be a total loss at that point....

Normal speed limit is 25 MPH, but this guy was high, so no telling what his normal is. Looking at the damage between the cars, his looks WAY worse.

I'll pull the stereo, speakers and all the parts I added to the car before I let it go. The frame is definitely tweaked at least a little. The rear quarter panel and the driver side door are now touching (slightly). For as bad as the accident was, I was really impressed with how well it did.

I'm seriously thinking about doing that. I'll at least take off the stuff that I added (stereo system, spin on oil adapter, etc).

That blows, dude. And a seal grey no less! That's no good. Seems like they never give you what the car's worth to you...but hope you get a decent settlement out of it..

I'm sorry that sux! Easier said than done but time to fall un in love with the car. It would be great to pass on parts to the forum but that can be a pia. Hopefully it is totaled. That car wont be the same but see what was all damaged. Did the driver suffer injuries?

Oh jeepers! Not another driver hitting parked car! Incredible!

Same thing happened to me, and yes, my Boxster with similar damage was totaled. (http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/43878-ahhh-my-car-hit-bad-today.html)

Oh, do not remove any parts from the car before it goes to the insurance company, they really frown on that because if the car is totaled then its not your car, its their car and then its theft. You'll have more than enough to argue about with the other guys insurance company without having to worry about a theft claim against you.

For me, it was an opportunity to get a 996 and replace the Boxster

Keep us up to date on how everything turns out.

This is the part that I'm worried about. I fear getting victimized 3 times. First by the moron that hit me, second by the insurance company not giving me fair value for the stock car, and third when they don't take into account the extra items I added and don't let me keep them. This just sucks all around.

BS. You own that car, and just because it was hit and MAY be totaled, does not mean anyone else has some magic claim to your property. You bought the mods. You have no duty to make any claim at all if you chose not to. You can set it on fire right now if you wanted. It's still your car.

The problem is that it was immediately towed to the shop where it now sits.

For a quote or an estimate? You can still insist they don't touch your car. You can get as many estimates as you want.

In my situation, I still had all the stock parts for my car. Insurance allowed me to take off my after market exhaust and I placed the old factory exhaust in the frunk. If they won't give you the added money for it, because it wasn't declared, take it off and give them the stock parts.
