New Motor Design

Thinking about putting one of these in the Jägermobile:

Engine Technology, Vehicle, Marine, Light Aircraft, Multi Fuel

Make sure to click on the "Unique Design" video clip.

I wonder how the shaft bearings will hold up???

Wow, someone laid awake several nights coming up with that design. Very intriguing.

Jag, aren't you about due for a new power plant w/ 1/4 millon miles on yours?

Interesting design. Some trade off's come to mind;
  • Very high compression ratio vs emissions control (NOx)
  • Sliding seals vs normal compression rings (the Wankel was famous for seal failures - ask me how I know)
  • Stationary valve-less intake/exhaust ports vs variable valve timing
  • Complexity/longevity of the reciprocator vs standard crankshaft
  • Cylindrical 5-cylinder vs our preferred flat-6 layout
That's not to say that it can't be sorted out but its going to take a lot of money.

And at the end of the day, not every good idea works out. Anyone remember the Honda NR oval piston engine?

this looks interesting, my concern would be with the longevity. it would be nice toget one to play with.

It's still going strong after 267k miles. I sometimes wonder when I will need a rebuild or new motor. I hope you didn't just jinx me.

I remember it well back in my motorcycle days in the late 80s, the NR750.
I don't think it was in production long, it also had an outrageous price tag for its day.
