Interesting design. Some trade off's come to mind;
  • Very high compression ratio vs emissions control (NOx)
  • Sliding seals vs normal compression rings (the Wankel was famous for seal failures - ask me how I know)
  • Stationary valve-less intake/exhaust ports vs variable valve timing
  • Complexity/longevity of the reciprocator vs standard crankshaft
  • Cylindrical 5-cylinder vs our preferred flat-6 layout
That's not to say that it can't be sorted out but its going to take a lot of money.

And at the end of the day, not every good idea works out. Anyone remember the Honda NR oval piston engine?
