They are almost to the point of giving magazines away for free. $8/yr doesn't even cover postage fees that they have to pay.

Newspapers are in even worse shape - about a month ago the LA Times called and offered a FREE 7-day per week subscription for 6 months. That's it. Free. No strings attached. I still said no thanks. Then I told the person that I'd take it if they PAID me $10 a month. She laughed and said that they weren't quite that desperate yet. Yet.

My fiance and I went o a car show in Nashville and they had coupons you filled out and they gave away a year for nothing. I thought it would just be the online version but they mail you a actual magazine.

Magazines and newspapers have to keep their "in-circulation" & total number of subscribers up to justify their advertising rates. So, if they have to give them away to do that, this is what happens.
