What does it mean when referring to coolant? If I buy the 50/50 mix do I have to add water to the coolant?

No. It's pre mixed. Just get the approved coolant for P cars.

Just checking. It seems to be more complicated then it has to be with all of the variants in coolant types.

personally i wouldn't just start using the pre-mixed coolant (or any other off the shelf stuff) without doing a flush. too much can go wrong. i know i've got the porsche coolant in there, and that's what i'll keep using.

that said, there are a few people on the forum that have used it without problem.

if you're just a little low, add some distilled water instead of topping up with stuff from the store.

yes the coolant is diluted with 50% water, but if you look at the prices charged for it, usually 13 -14 a gallon, it seems like it would be much more economical if you paid the 15 a gallon for the full strength stuff and added your own $1 a gallon distilled water. the Porsche cooling systems usually hold around 5 gallons. why not put your money where it makes you happy, in the tank so you can drive more.

I'm not aware of any premixed coolants that is designed to work in a Porsche. Be extremely careful what you mix in the existing coolant.

Personally, I wouldn't mix it 50 / 50 unless I lived in a very cold climate and parked my car outside.

Water is actually a better coolant as far as heat capacity (Cp), so I use only about a 30% mix, which provides a freezing point protection of about +5 F and a boiling point of about 254 F. Adding more antifreeze does not raise the boiling point very much, and really only serves to depress the freeze point.
