I can totally sympathize. My wife went away, for 3 years ! Well, actually she came home for a few days every couple of months. And summer vacations. Law school, at age 54 (graduated 3rd in her class :dance !
I didn't think I'd survive. My daughter (age 29 then) came home and lived with me for a year, I got a dog (Brittany), and a new motorcycle. That helped. And learned to do laundry. Rarely.

I've been bachin' it for 33 yrs. Haven't killed myself yet.
Laundry:
Socks, underwear, jeans all together. Med temp. Dry for an hr.
Polos or dockers - wash by color. Cool temp. Dry for 20 min then take them out immediately and place them smoothed out on your guest bed. Won't need to iron.
Towels - same as socks.
Be sure to remove the lint from the dryer screen each time.
Sounds like now would be a good time to do a bunch of grilling. Get some baked potatoes already in cellophane - pop them in the microwave for 6-7 min. Corn on the cob wrapped in wax paper - 2 min in microwave. Watermelon - cut the rine into small chunks and send down the disposal.
Let the good times roll.

Try this. three times a week eat Pacific Sockeye Salmon (Kirkland brand, canned) and Norweigian Brisling saridnes (King Oscar). Eat either brocoli, cauliflower or brussel sprouts every other day. Avoid eating any starches that contain wheat, eat any kind of potatoe or wild rice instead (keep on eye portion size though). Get a blender and mix up three protein shakes a day using a natural whey (Optimum Nutrition brand fro Vitamin Shoppe), add a tablespoon of peanut butter to one or two of the shakes. Try low fat Swiss Cheese (Jarlsberg lite at Costco) and eat whole eggs, not just egg whites. This regimen worked very well for people I know who are also genetically built to be 'stout' for their height and are not big eaters/drinkers. The fatty acids in the fish have a way of tapping at existing body fat for energy better than other types of protein (beef/fowl).

dishes can be done with the soapy water after you are finished washing the car. also the hose makes rinsing them off soooooo much easier. the lawn is the perfect place to allow them to lawn dry and get that fresh summer smell to them. this also works for laundry, except you wash the laundry at the same time you wash the car, using pants and shirts for the liberal application of soapy water to the painted and glass surfaces. just remember to use the darks on the wheels and tires. the clothes will dry in a similar way as the plates, pots and pans (mentioned earlier). as far as food goes, there is pizza, burgers and chicken (fried of course), popeyes is my favorite.
any additional questions?

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD TIME FOR UPGRADES! Each Thursday my wife goes to her mothers. I either visit a local car show or plan on projects.
Oh by the way NEVER pull a 3 ton floor jack out from under the car with your right arm fully extended, BAD THINGS COULD HAPPEN. Like tearing your tricep, ask me how I know!

its easy
just stuff as much as you can in the washer
throw in one of those detergent pods
when its done, throw it in the dryer
easy
who cares about separating colors, etc, just use cold water and all is good
at least that is what I used to do before I trained the cat to do it
