Driver side window - glass not dropping at closing?

Having driver side window issues. Not drop automatically at closing....window glass hitting the convertible roof....sounds terrible and I am afraid the window may break. Anyone know what I need to do to fix this? Just started acting up this weekend. 2000 Boxster Thanks

Probebly one of the Switches in the door mechansime is bad.
My guess it is the one on the door handle.
More information you can find here:

It may be the microswitch inside the door lock assembly. It can get jammed or fail, and then the computer thinks the door is always closed. What happens when you open the door is that the window drops while your hand is on the handle (inner handle/inner switch,, outer handle/outer switch) but as soon as you release the handle, the window goes right back up.

If the window fails to drop when you lift one of the door handles, that is the microswitch for that door handle. If the window drops and then goes right back up when you release the handle, it is the switch in the door lock assembly...

The solution is to roll down the window a little bit before getting in and out... I have been doing that for the last year on my passenger side..... I have the part to fix but just haven't wanted to dive in....

either it's the micro switch or there is too much slack in the window regulator cable. The difference is if the window regulator motor tries to drop the window and maybe it moves slightly but not enough to clear the top or if there is no command for the window to drop at all. You can also tell if this is your problem by pushing up and down on the window after you open the door. If it moves a lot, say an inch up and down, then the regulator cable slack is likely your problem.

Like others said, your door lock assy switch is shot. I just went thru this, and bought the whole assy (your only option) from Gaudin Porsche (Las Vegas) for $125, alarm version. I like Pelican, but they were alot more $.

Not too hard to replace, just very fiddly removing door panel and sub parts. The 101 Boxster project book was invaluable. You a need 8mm triple square bit (I found them at Pep Boys).

Wow....that is a good price. Thanks for that. Gotta do the same project myself.
