Thank you, it means alot, I am sure it does not appeal to all, but at the very least it will be interesting to see how people react, to see where this goes.

I'd actually rather give you a few bucks towards your car than give money to every store that asks me if I want to donate to the children at checkout. Who are these "children" you want me to donate to I ask the person running the register? A blank look is all they can usually produce. At least with you I know where my donation would be going.

Or you could at least consider checking charity navigator, assuming you cared. They only award 4-stars to charities that, among other things, dedicate $0.85 of every dollar donated to programs. Here, I'll help, since you seem so interested in helping less fortunate Charity Navigator - America's Largest Charity Evaluator | Home

Thank you. That was very helpful. I often think that the stores are more padding their own pockets than actually giving to the less fortunate.
On another note. Jake asking for money to buy a car so he doesn't have to drive his Porsche to school is so far out there that it just might work

I wish it were more complete, but alas they are also a 501(c)(3). Of note, they do also cite some charities that have violations. Having said that, those change boxes can mean up to $2000-$3000 annually, depending on the number and distribution. As a general donation, these type help nonprofits as the money is not restricted and can be spend on things like administration, salaries... basically anything.

I'm just thankful I never had to make the tough decision if I should drive my Porsche to school or not.
