Thanks.

After I replaced my stock 00 top with a top and frame from an 04, I was wondering whether I continued to need my hardtop. The addition of the glass rear window with defroster and the headliner make the car much more pleasant in the winter when compared to the unlined, plastic window top.

I expect that the soft top in the 981 is nicer than the one I have and that may have lead Porsche to conclude that they wouldn't sell enough hard tops to justify the engineering cost. Also, without the hard boot cover found on the 986 and 987 I expect that the top would have to be larger and present some design challenges.

Cheers

One option I see right away is that he opted for the "steering wheel on the wrong side" option.

Part of it may also be that if you want a hardtop Porsche will sell you the Caymen.
