Just returned from 2200 mile in my boxster with 68k miles (Now 70500)

First day - 950 miles straight from Southern NJ to Daytona Beach Fla.

A little under 15 hours with only 6 stops. (3) for gas, 3 to stretch

Averaged 72 mph and 27.5 mpg in High 80’s - 90 degree temps

Car ran without a single hint of problems. I was surprised but obviously very happy

Rested and visited with relatives for a few days

Trip Back:

550 miles across GA to Cherokee NC for Start of Blue Ridge Parkway. Rested overnight

450 miles Blue Ridge Parkway to Waynesboro VA

Not the greatest conditions. Lots of Fog (under 30 foot visibility) in the higher elevations. I had to use the GPS to let me know when I was going into Hair Pin turns

Rain and fog the last 100 miles really pushed my buttons

Rested Overnight

Did the Skyline Drive and back home in dry conditions
Got the top down in 47 degrees, careful with the plastic window but needed that view without a roof

Home was by way of the painful 95 north on a Friday from Washington DC. Really tested mine and the Boxster’s patients.

I did notice that braking down those mountain roads, the front end now needs the replacement I have been planning

I brought tools, an extra scissors jack in-case. I even brought along a new Spare AOS in-case.

The last day home I was getting 32 mpg on the highway.

Day after I got home, washed all the road grim and bug guts off and just put in the garage for a well-deserved rest

27 mpg? I don't know how so of you guys do it. I stay pretty on top of my tire pressure, oil changes, air filter, etc. and I'm high teens at best.

Same here. I typically get between 17.5 and 19mpg in mixed driving.

7,688 miles in 8 days. From N. Georgia to Edmonton AB, Canada and back... 3.8L Generation 5, Stage II, Track Performer making 340 RWHP.

Average 23 MPG, peak 28 MPG. Most of the time we were traveling well above normal speeds. The average MPG for the trip fell off a lot; because we chose to take a 107 mile long dirt road in Montana to put the IMS Solution through pure off road hell, to prove that robustness of it's oil feed hose.

All to get a single oil sample....

I hit 32 mpg, but that was imperial gallons, not US. and it was on a 200km flat road with a slight tail wind, steady speed of 100 - 105 kph, no cruise control.

I ave around 19-20 around town and on the highway around 27-30

Pre tuning I could get 30, the second I get over 70 its like the drain the tank switch is turned on. High teens
Post tune I can get 25 same thing as soon as the cams start to rollup. the mileage starts to drop. Mid teen

Climbing up in 2nd 4500 - 5k or 3rd 4K I would drop into high teens. As soon as I could level off around 3-3500 I jumped right into lower 20s

Since the Boxster has so few monitors, my only way to gauge my car's health was water temp and MPG
The water temp just sat a hair over 180 at speed and the mpg staying steady
I did notice that in the early AM (cooler more dense air) I was seeing a steady 29.5 mpg steady. As the air temp went up, my mpg dropped but steadied in the high 20s

It was a good thing my Box was getting good MPG - at $4.10/gal Shell Premium, fuel costs were a bit steep.

I dream of getting gas that cheap. It's close to 5 1/2 bucks here

Holy crap! I can run the dog piss out of my son's Corvette and get better gas mileage than that. Are you shifting at about 6000 rpms every shift?

I get around 23-25 mpg. I shift around 3000-3500 rpms (unless spirited driving). When I'm just cruising into work I'm at 2500-2600 rpms (at 60mph).

on my long highway drives i tend to average somewhere in the 24-25 mpg at 80-85 mph. i notice i get a little better when it's warm outside, a little worse when it's cold outside. i put the top up on the highway and usually keep the windows up as well. i think the best i ever got was 28mpg.

I tend to average 23-24mpg mixed usage. Highest I've seen was 27mpg.

Perhaps I'll be taking my Box on a trip this fall. The trips I've taken before were fun and didn't tax me at all.

In 2005, a year after I bought my 1997 box with 84k on it, the wife and I drove from Houston to San Diego to Northern California, through Death Valley into Vegas, and home by way of the Grand Canyon. 21 days of driving. 27 mpg on average most of the time unless I was carving canyon roads.

The car did great, even though it had worn suspension parts (learned about that later!). I did not fare so well, experiencing backaches the entire trip. The seats are very supportive at the track, but not the best for a older fat guy on a very long road trip.

Sounds great, I love Cherokee shame you couldn't enjoy the areas roads to the Fullest. Driving around the Carolina mountains makes me respect the cars breaks more than anything else haha.

Did my Chicago to OKC trip last December / January. I was getting around 25 mpg with the cruise set for about 13mph over the limit (68 in IL, 83 in MO and 87 in OK) in my '97.

that was why I decided to take this car over my 300M. The 300M only gets about 22 mpg.

Guys, on subject of gas prices....here in UK we're close to 11 dollars a gallon for premium fuel. I get about 25 mpg in my base 2.7 Tip.

I am surprised to see the variations in MPG on the Hwy. I could only speculate 6 versus 5 speed. I have no mods so maybe mods reduce mpg??
My prep was new oil, air filter, clean the MAF. The plugs and belt only had a couple thousand miles on them.
My MPG is typical of what I'm use to
What I was alluding to in the title 'Stamina' was running the engine 14 hours in 90 degree temps at 3k rpm
Then thrashing it up and down those mountains 500+ miles.
Get back on the Hwy and the engine runs even more efficiently.
The original clutch (70k miles) never complained even when I got lazy and kept it in 3rd climbing at 3k rpms

I was very nervous that this car couldn't just run like that but I do like an adventure.
Probably why I bought a Boxster in the first place
I was picturing myself changing the AOS in the dark and rain, on a lonely mountain road, the engine still blazing hot and of course I wouldn't have any cell service
