Retrofit cupholders
Hey all. Just wanted to see if anyone had installed these to replace the broken ones in their 986?
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 000-044-801-91-OEM
I found these via a forum link (can't recall where, sorry) that indicated it would work. Clearly cheaper than just buying a single replacement holder.
Gracias!

Interesting level of complexity... for a cup holder mechanism! How many more years it will take a car manufacturer to invent the cupheater/holder you think?!
I'd say at that price, just buy it. Can't be worst than a broken one

My wife's 2011 Chrysler 300c has heated and cooled cup holders. This in a car that costs less then many new Carrera buyers spend on options. I'm sure Porsche will be happy to add it as a $800 option.

I'd just replace the broken ones with a cubby insert (that is actually useful) and buy a pair of Ultimate Cupholders to use in the car.

That's one over engineered cupholder. 96-98 Toyota 4runner had similar cupholder and it took them three years to figured out that customers hated it. For porshce, I'm not sure what happened, it took them over five years to make changes.

They are not very useful aside from the novelty of how over engineered they are. But they will work fine, i have them in my dash from the PO, they were factory after a certain year so they will fit in just fine.

I'll chime in as I have these in my new to me 2002 S. Yes they are overly complicated for what they are. I had to remove mine because the drivers side was pushed in past the face plate. Turns out the " cage " that holds the cup holder allowed it to slip past the stops. I spot caulked with an adhesive caulk to stop the sliding. Then I had to repair the top of both cup holders because apparently the heat from the dash, the heat/cold from the dash vents make the plastic brittle. Got that fixed then found out almost every decent insulated coffee mug won't fit the damn thing ! Yes you can find mugs that will fit but then the next problem, if you have the AC on your hot coffee quickly cools.........stupid design. Oh and if your mug/soda/drink spills it runs down on your electronic items below.........stupid design. Today I received the two ultimate cupholders I ordered on Monday. They are cheaper than this overly complex POS and place your drinks low on the floor where they should be in my opinion.

FYI, I got these and they are identical to the ones that came stock in my 986. So basically the 'retrofit' kit is about $225 cheaper than the 'retail' kit. Nice having stable upholders again...
