Crusing RPM?
RPM that corresponds to actual crusing speed. Minimum Rpm is your choise. Mine is1200.
Observe the Boxster engine is a fairly std engine, but flat.

Never cruising below 3000rpm. These engines like high rpms and their oil being splashed around by the crankshaft.

Get great MPG at 1200. That's like 25 mph in 4th
The only way I can get down to 1200 and still be moving is hwy heavy traffic.1st gear just trying to creap along at 3-5 mph

The auto when in auto mode drops into 5th right above 40... Most the roads I drive on have 35 or 40 limits. So I drive around 50.. This puts the car frequently under 2k rpm... Now I usually drive in Man, but I wouldn't assume porsche would litterly program their cars to self destruct haha. Now I have a dual row and oil filter is always clear of shavings... But I don't think the cars HAVE to be kept over 3k.

In a previous thread you mentioned RPMs and I thought that the Tip was running at much lower RPMs then most think is best. I thought the same thing regarding Porsche and their auto programming relative to RPM ranges
I personally think that running under or around 2K, except brief periods, puts to much stress on the clutch. I can't speak to what affects or loads it puts on the IMS.

What I do know is that Highway cruising at 75 speedo (71-72 real) in 6th is right around 3k(-)
65 in 6th puts it down around 2500(+). The car is bogged down at this range

if i remember right, i think i read somewhere that auto failures are rarer.. which i dont like bogging out the engine and i usually drive in M..... however i dont think its necessary to always be driving in higher revs and maybe based on the autos failing less its better that you dont.

If you're cruising your 986 at 1200 rpm then you better keep Jake's number in your rolodex. You're going to need it.

Rolodex, lol- could you imagine physically writing down a phone number on a little car and keeping it with a bunch of other little cards.. That'd be like getting in the car and driving to a travel agency to purchase a plane ticket.
