Painting boot rack!

Rack is chrome, but I will paint it black as my Boxster is black on black on black from before.

What type of paint should I use? I'm thinking Plasti Dip, but probably not so great for wear and tear (I will be mounting my skiis on the rack)

Any one know what paint to use on chrome?

I don't think that's going to work. Chrome is virtually maintenance free. Paint will wear and chip.

Get it re-done in black chrome maybe?

You can paint over chrome.

Definitely. I painted a chrome motorcycle fender once and it worked out fine, although I did sandblast it first. I just think that something like a rack will wear quickly where things are strapped on to it, unless perhaps you use some kind of padding as a buffer.

Well, one way to find out! Like Miss Frizzle says.... Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!

I really think a black chrome rack would look boss though.

Like Mark said, the chrome will need to come off. Sandblasting sounds pretty accurate for that kind of stuff. Lots of additional manual sanding if you need a perfect finish & paint job. Paint takes weeks to cure tho :/

Also mentioned, you'll be strapping stuff onto your rack so in that case you have no choice but to send those to your local powder coating guy. PC is 50x more durable than paint and the finish is very close to a regular paint job.

Yes, either sand blasting or fine grid sand paper.. we´ll see. Still curious as to what type of spray paint to use.

If you're dead set on using paint then you should find something really tough, like Imron.

Any engine block spray paint will do in your case. Quick and dirty job, most durable
