Is it possible to update my air intake vents ?

I have a 1998 base model and I read it was possible to update the air intake vents to give it a new look. I called the local dealership parts department to inquire and they didn't have a clue.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Any intake vent 'upgrade' would be aftermarket, I have seen a few but there are not too many style variations. There is really not a huge amount you can do besides change the fin style, color the fins, or add mesh. But be aware that some people consider the mesh a bad idea (thick mesh), as it can restrict air flow, same issue with mesh in front of the radiators.

A few years ago someone had 987 fake vents for the 986.

You can put the '03/'04 vents on as they are the same overall size. These have a larger open area and the vents ribs are not recessed. I changed my '02 vents to '03 with no problem. Try some of the dismantlers like the one in Los Angeles and I think there is one in Fla.

Here is a pic with the hardware cloth screen I added to keep out debris as I also de snorked it.

Side Vents were redesigned for 2003 models for increased airflow & contributed to HP gain for that year.
