A new cluster can be had over here approximately $100-150. An additional 100 bucks will get it reprogrammed to the correct mileage.
Know anyone else with the same model Boxster? If so you could swap cluster to see if this resolves the issue first. Of course the mileage is stored on the cluster EPROM (not the ecu) so it will reflect this.

I can't remember which forum but there is a fix for this that costs nothing. I brows Plant 9, Rennlist, and PCA Boxster register and I know I saw this resolved
