Where are this fellow's gloves???!!

ccjazz 06-26-2013 01:44 PM

Yeah, I presume this is a sterile area and the photographer was behind a 3" glass window to avoid contamination. Maybe it's just an intern preping the patient.

Today was simply the drop-off. Tomorrow is when they'll be doing it. In the meantime, I got a room down the road a ways.

Jager 06-26-2013 06:17 PM

Well, if it makes you feel any better, there are only a few things that could go wrong.

1.They forget to lock the motor at TDC and a timing chain gets knocked-off during the procedure.
2.They break the IMS pulling the old bearing out
3.They break the IMS putting the new bearing in
4.They can’t get the new bearing in
5.They can’t get the new bearing installed all the way in the seat so they can’t install the snap ring
6.They install the new bearing crooked

The rest of the procedure is pretty much straight forward as long as they do it right.

Thanks for easing my anxiety. All I need now is a Haldol drip. :(

I trust that you trust your mechanic with that thing.

Item #6 on Mr. Positive's list is probably the one that would cause you to check into the looney bin for an extended stay. Plus, you know where your mechanic lives. Be sure he knows this.

I'm being silly. The shop that's doing the work is one of the most highly respected, full-on Porsche race facilities in the US. There's guy's can change an IMS bearing in their sleep. :)

JD, I didn't expect you would take it to some backyard butcher and, in any event, the number of bad installations seems to be quite small in spite of some questionable installers. No doubt at all they will do it right!

Cheers!

Brad

Well JD if it all goes south then you can take it for the big upgrade for 16 big ones at Rabys/Ln engineering/flat 6. As a goodwill gesture I will kick in the first $ if it does not work....

Mind you you are not the first one to have it done but it probably feels like it to you.
You have my utmost sympathy as I watch your JD mobile go under the knife like a lamb to the slaughterhouse. In the meantime I put my trust in the IMS Guardian which is mere training wheels for the real thing. I am green with envy.:D

You forgot:

Forget to lock camshafts.
Forget to remove the chain tensioners

But don't worry, its not that important...

Hi JD!

Thanks. But, I'm already equipped with sufficient reading material.

Eric G 06-27-2013 10:22 AM

Johnny Danger 06-27-2013 10:49 AM
