Dangermobile Scheduled for IMS-oscopy !
The Dangermobile is heading in for an IMS-oscopy tomorrow. Strangely, the shop going the work instructed me not to feed the D-mobile after 7 PM tonight. Does this make sense ?
|
Yes, you wouldn't want her coughing anything up while under anesthetic! And by the way, probably a good decision considering what you have invested in her. I assume you are going for the upgraded LN bearing, but are you also getting the clutch done?

21k on the clock, i'd say they clutch is about only 1/3 worn if that.
I'd save my cash, and stick a new bearing in there when it goes. 30/40k down the road...so by JD's standard....15 years from now! Love you man! |

This is an easy DIY. Just use this instruction manual:

Bravo JD! Get 'er done with and enjoy.
Sometimes being a man of danger is knowing which battles to fight, and this opponent is a ninja. |
I hope the Dr. has skinny fingers.
Seriously, how do you inspect play in the IMSB short of taking down the trans? |

Don't worry it will all be over tomorrow. I send down some Monte Cristos for you to pass around in the waiting room

Danger
You should video tape this endeavor. Wait are you going to drive to the shop or have it towed? jk :p |
Danger:
I hear IMSocopies aren't covered even under Romneycare because Porsche considers them experimental procedures. The good news is the Dangermobile will be good for 10 years before the next required check up if the technician doesn't find any ferrous polyps in the oiling system. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. |
Hope they don't leave a sponge in there...
|
We will keep you in our thoughts today...hopefully the surgeon is good and it will be painless. For your anesthetic...have you opted for IV or Gas? It helps in the recovery.

Is the "Get well soon....Yellow Danger" bill board up in Boston yet?

Pre-op began at 10 am.

Where are this fellow's gloves???!!
|
Yeah, I presume this is a sterile area and the photographer was behind a 3" glass window to avoid contamination. Maybe it's just an intern preping the patient.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, there are only a few things that could go wrong.
1.They forget to lock the motor at TDC and a timing chain gets knocked-off during the procedure. 2.They break the IMS pulling the old bearing out 3.They break the IMS putting the new bearing in 4.They can’t get the new bearing in 5.They can’t get the new bearing installed all the way in the seat so they can’t install the snap ring 6.They install the new bearing crooked The rest of the procedure is pretty much straight forward as long as they do it right. |

Item #6 on Mr. Positive's list is probably the one that would cause you to check into the looney bin for an extended stay. Plus, you know where your mechanic lives. Be sure he knows this. |

JD, I didn't expect you would take it to some backyard butcher and, in any event, the number of bad installations seems to be quite small in spite of some questionable installers. No doubt at all they will do it right!
Cheers! Brad |
Well JD if it all goes south then you can take it for the big upgrade for 16 big ones at Rabys/Ln engineering/flat 6. As a goodwill gesture I will kick in the first $ if it does not work....
Mind you you are not the first one to have it done but it probably feels like it to you. You have my utmost sympathy as I watch your JD mobile go under the knife like a lamb to the slaughterhouse. In the meantime I put my trust in the IMS Guardian which is mere training wheels for the real thing. I am green with envy.:D |

Forget to lock camshafts. Forget to remove the chain tensioners But don't worry, its not that important... Hi JD! |
