Your base Box has ~30hp on a stock MCS of any vintage and is on pretty much equal footing with 2.5 base from an excelleration standpoint until the minis higher Cd starts to come into play. The advantage that a mini has on the box is that it's a bit lighter and has a close ratio transmission that is geared to make the car as quick as possible. The gearing in all 986's seems to have been designed to keep it in its proper place in the Porsche hierarchy.

That said, he should not have smoked you, but if he did, it was definitely an S. Remeber that it is likely cheap and easy to get 200+ HP out of that little 1.8L supercharged I4. There are lots of Mini's running 12's at the drag strip...even 11's! That's early 90s CBR600 quick!
