Chicago Area Boxster Owners

Hey how about the snow storm today! Took me 5 hours to go from Arlington Heights to Elmhurst, and back! Only about 30 miles round trip. And I was driving an SUV with AWD.

I was supposed to go to the Illinois vs. Georgetown game in Champaign, but it was already 5:00 PM and I was still not on a major road.

Good thing for ESPN in HD!

I hear you. We had a good amount of snow downstate too. Made for an interesting drive home!

I just put on the winter tires recommended in the Porsche factory bulletin, Continental Winter Contacts, 7810S's, but still didn't risk it. The car has mostly been parked in the garage. Took me 1:15 to go 13 miles.

Just moved back....

to the Chicagoland area last week after 5+ years in Hawaii......What a wake up call!! Close to 0 when I landed, and now snow.....Harsh reality!!!

The Box is being shipped and won't be here for another 6 weeks probably....Missin it, but with all this snow, probably better off without it!

Hmm, seems a few of us prefer the color red

Any tips on winter driving??

Lou

Yeah it made me thankful I work less than 2 miles from home! It did take me considerably longer though, with the snow, an accident at the only main intersection I go through... 15 minutes!!!

Hey Lou, welcome to the Chicago area. So you want a winter driving tip for the Boxster...don't do it, what till March/April.

Search this forum for "winter storage" there has been some excellent advice given by many of our awesome members!

Luckily we only have a handful of days in which you cannot drive your Porsche. The streets are cleared fast around here and the next day is back to normal. I headed to dig out my wifes car at the Itasca train station and took a peak at 53 from the Devon overpass and...well...NOBODY was moving! SUV or not, there are some days we all just lose!
