If you can afford it have both. Why? There is another thread somewhere where the owner of a 986 sold it and regretted it. He later found it on a used car lot.

Make sure it is what you want and do not be in a position of selling your 986 and regretting it later. I am still in love with my 2001 Boxster base after 2 years of ownership and I do not know how long this love thing is going to last.......

I went from an absolutely impeccable 987S to a 981 about two months ago. I missed my 987 like crazy (still do), but the 981 is utterly fantastic!

If you can pull it financially, I can't imagine you'd regret the 981.
