thinking about becoming a sugardady

Well yes I'm thinking about droping the old lady ( 2000 986 S) for a much younger one (2014 981 base). What do you guys think?
Performance I think would be about the same, more economical, everything brand new and under warranty. And I love the look. I dont really like the 987 and dont think it worth changing of my 986 S, but the 981 is always in my dreams. Base price is quit good.

Anyone drove the 981 base and could compare a little? could not test one this morning as it was still snowing :( and it was on summer tire.

later all
Chris

Just to establish my perspective, I've driven any number of 986 and 987 examples, both base and S, and own a base '04. I recently drove a base 981.

As you would expect, the 981 continues the progression of the Boxster series in being more refined (quieter, smoother ride, fewer creaks/rattles/etc.) than the 987, which in turn was a similar step up from the 986. That said, the 981 also has electric power steering, which removes ALL the feel. In addition, the shifter sits on a Carrera GT style center console, putting it up at a rally car-like height. The latter change is an annoyance I could live with/get used to, but the former is a deal breaker - steering feel is such an important part of what the Boxster is about that taking it away makes it, in my view, into a GT car rather than a sports car.

For me, the base 987 represents the best balance of refinement, control effort, power, and road feel, and that will likely be my next car. The 981 leaves me cold - it's certainly not a bad car, but it's no longer a pure sports car.

And set them each up in their own garage with a generous allowance!

I'd be tempted to wait a bit longer and get a gently used one minus that initial depreciation, but otherwise if that what you want,I'd say go for it.

If you can afford it and it's not going to cause too much trouble with your other half I would get the 981 in an instant with no more thought at all.
It's a fantastic car, like the 986 and 987 but it's now bigger and looks to me to be one of the finest cars on the road and for not a huge cost.
All the issues of electric steering etc is nonsense. It's balanced and perfect.
I am going to wait 3yrs and buy one that has been babied hopefully for 10k less than a new one hopefully.
So to sum up, you never know what's round the corner in life, if you are healthy, fit and loaded go and buy one and thank your lucky stars you could! Then come on here and tell us all what it's like to have one.
I have a 99 2.7 68k , 1 previous owner, mint and I really love it, a 981 is the only car I would swap it for right now and there are plenty of amazing cars out there.

If you can afford it have both. Why? There is another thread somewhere where the owner of a 986 sold it and regretted it. He later found it on a used car lot.

Make sure it is what you want and do not be in a position of selling your 986 and regretting it later. I am still in love with my 2001 Boxster base after 2 years of ownership and I do not know how long this love thing is going to last.......:)

I went from an absolutely impeccable 987S to a 981 about two months ago. I missed my 987 like crazy (still do), but the 981 is utterly fantastic!

If you can pull it financially, I can't imagine you'd regret the 981.

(Call me sugarmamma!)

Wait... I opened this thread cuz I thought someone was looking for a date and was willing to buy me expensive gifts to make that happen.

I'm a little disappointed.
