Is that because he was by himself?

or are you saying there was someone else in the car?

Form my past experience, I too would recommend you NOT work with the other insurance company and only work with your own insurance agent. They should settle your claim with you directly. You will have to pay the deductible, but when they settle with the other insurance company you will be reimbursed. Not only is this the quickest way to be back on the road with your new(er) Boxster but it is also much less painful. In time, money, and mental anguish.

I am sorry for your loss and hope it works out for the best. The only other thought I have is if your insurance is insufficient and you have to settle for less than full value or replacement for your car is to either consider a layer (if you have the bucks for it) or do it yourself via small claims court. You can sue for damages and anything your insurance company couldn't collect. You can obtain a lien on property and even sell it to settle your loss if the court finds in your favor. Small claims court is not expensive and doesn't require a lawyer. It is not difficult or expensive to serve someone either. And if they wind up in court, there is also a good chance the judge will revoke her privilige to drive.

I spoke with my insurance company today. They agreed that using my collision insurance was the right thing to do. They are arranging to have the car towed to their collision center to determine if its repairable or a total loss.

Cars hitting poles is something I know quite well...... not because I've hit them, but because I work not only as a charter boat captain but a construction coordinator for a local utility. I have to figure out damages for every pole that is hit in my area. Wood poles are about $2-3k for the power company depending on how much is on them. The phone company and the cable company can also claim damages. (and they do) Cable is normally about $500- $1000 again depending on the stuff on the pole, phone company is about the same. If lines were severed the cost goes way up because those companies claim damage from outage time. If it's a concrete or ductile pole the cost go up fast for the power companies. last concrete pole I did was between $5 and 7K for the power company. Anyway as you have posted and others have posted call your insurance agent let them go to battle for you it's part of what you pay them for.

Pompous,

I have a few friends running that race, If you are in Key West stop in Vino's or Grand Vin and say hi, we are normally there on Friday and Saturday nights, sometimes during the day too, just ask for "Prissy's husband"
