Thanks for hanging in there and dealing with the differences between the old and new clusters. Chris Zang's warning about the differences proved accurate. Fortunately Gavin's basic method works on both types of cluster.

As a point of reference, what oil pressure does the M96 engine run at hot >@ 3000rpm?
Is there a difference in pressures between the 2,5/2,7/3,2 l engines?

The only reference I could find was a 2003 996 owner's manual. It said the pressure should be approximately 3.5 bar at 5000 rpm with a fully warmed up engine. It seems like my 2.7 runs at about that level.

For the volt meter the normal range is 12-16 volts. If it is below 12 with the engine running, you should "have the charging system checked at an authorized Porsche dealer."
