LN engr. ims ceramic bearing

I am in the process of installing a new LN Eng. imsb for a single row application. With what I have read I thought I would be getting a ceramic bearing without the embedded seals (on bearing face) What I have rec'd from Pelican is a ceramic bearing that looks identical to the removed (original) bearing. The p/n of the retro fit kit is LN-106-08-2.

What has confused me was some pictures of the new improved ceramic bearing in the book "101 projects for your porsche boxster"

If some one could shed some light on this I would very much appreciate it.

I just bought a LN Ceramic single bearing and one side is open, the other is sealed.

Which one is the correct bearing ? I just ordered mine from LN Eng. a few weeks ago.

I have an 02 S. Will post pics if someone cannot clear this up. I paid extra for this bearing and want to ensure it is correct. I would not have thought anything of it….until I saw your post. I too am about to put it in….and just wanted to be sure.

HELP?

Why didn't you guys wait for the new single row Solution thinga majig.
Clean oil sent to the IMS sounds pretty cool.

I am guessing because there is not a DIY option....

the idea that it has to be shipped to GA to be installed is a deal breaker for me.

Guys. I'm not sure what you are talking about?
The LN bearing comes with the center bolt installed on it.
So obviously the bearing needs to be installed with the bolt facing out.
This side of the bearing dose not have seal on it.

I purchased the LN ceramic imsb retro kit from Pelican. It is sealed on both sides.
The discussion came about due to a photo in the 101 boxster projects book. It had shown a picture of the open faced bearing, however one of the sales reps (Kenny) told me it was not correct.

The ceramic bearing kits Pelican sell have the sealed cermic bearing. As I was told.

Just curious as to how does engine oil penetrate the bearing from the flywheel side when it is sealed on the fwd or ims side.

Richard - Call Pelican (unless someone else can clear this up). Sounds like you got the Pelican solution and not LN's. Mine had exposed bearings on one side, very hight quality.

Pelican sells both their own and the "LN" ceramic bearing (both bearings actually from LN). The Pelican is a sealed metal bearing, the LN is ceramic unsealed. Call Pelican and see what they shipped you. Sounds like the Pelican. Big difference in price.

I'm really confused now. One picture in this thread shows that the LN bearing is unsealed; another picture shows it as sealed. I also looked at pictures on the Pelican Parts site. The single row looks sealed on the stud side of the bearing. The dual row LN bearing looks unsealed to me.

I guess you have to have bought one to understand. I get it now.

Mine is the LN Eng. ceramic bearing - it IS indeed OPEN on one side. Thanks @ Meir - it looks identical to yours.

The bearing also came with the "LN Engineering.com IMS Retrofit" sticker w/ unique serial#. Thanks @Jager. NOTE: My number is in the 6600's - meaning LN have sold a few thousand of these since yours!

I will be glad to put the whole thing in the rearview! I am getting grumpy not having my racecar.

I've had a "Porsche-jones" for a couple weeks now! Can't get my fix. Tried my wife's Honda and left it 'ticking' in the drive but didn't feel much better. Nothing really takes the place. One drop of oil and your life can change! Carpe Porsche!

Could be that LN decided to remove the seal down the road.
This way or the other, oil still gets in there, just likes it gets into the OEM bearing.

LN Ims ceramic bearing

Sorry for all the confusion. The bearing that I have is what Jager has shown. The confusion was created for me after seeing the ceramic bearing showing a metal cage.

I emailed Michael a picture of it at LN engineeriring and he verified that my bearing is indeed the none sealed ceramic bearing.

Meir, the LN ceramic bearing has never had the inner seal. It invites the oil mist within the crankcase in as opposed to the Porsche and Pelican steel bearing which use an inner seal and lube with grease with some oil sometimes getting by the seal and washing out the grease thus allowing a less lubed steel bearing.

A comparison of the two kits is here.

That's what I thought mike.
But Jäger is definitely showing an LN bearing, and it looks like it has an outer seal.
Unless the picture is showing the "back" of the bearing.

I purchased LNE bearings mid 2011. All of them have the seal. In this photo the bearing on the left is the factory original. The center bearing and the bearing on the right are LNE bearings.
