You get the same effect in reverse when you put winter tires on a car. A brand new set of Conti DWS tires at the start of winter turned my '00 S into a pig. In about 500 miles, it wasn't near as bad, but I can't WAIT until spring and the Yoko Advans go on.

AD-08's? Another EXCELLENT tire. Have 'em on the 993 Turbo. Talk about crisp turn-in! Amazing.

Yes the Mich Super Sports are fantastic. I got 4 of them (18s) mounted and balanced including tax for $1100 out the door. No flat spotting, very sticky even when cold, quiet, and turn ins are awesome. Good choice.

The decision between RE-11s and AD08s was made due to the superior (according to Tire Rack surveys) steering response of the AD08s. For a street car, I think steering response contributes more to the fun factor than outright grip.

The AD-08 is probably also the fastest of the true street tires (those legal in SCCA Street Tire classes). The only other ones close to them for our cars seem to be the RE-11, RS-3, and Star-Spec. All much faster than any Michelin tire except the MPSC which generally isn't considered a street tire. But all of these are awful when the temperature gets below about 50 F.

It's too bad we don't currently have a maximum grip street tire that can be used all year. I did hear there is a new RE-11a coming - we'll see.
