Automotive Scissor Lift

Just saw this lift for $908.58 today on-line. Combine with a 20% off coupon to knock another $180 off. Shipping is about $100. Seems like a pretty good deal. Has anyone tried one of these? The reviews seem to be pretty good. Really don't have the money right now, but it sure would be nice to have.

Bruce, this is the EXACT same lift I purchased from Gregg Smith last year. Max load is 6600lbs and the best part is the hydraulics are USA made. I ended up paying 1600 delivered...so this would be an awesome little find!

Is there good access to everything? How about storing it? Do you just park over it?

I was able to access everything without problem. As for storage, the unit has a lifting pin to roll out of the way if you want, however, we simply park either car over the top of it. The Boxster can do it without using board risers (on good suspension). Robins car simply drives right over the top without issue.

Note: if you do have to lift the car to get on it (as mine started out with a shot suspension) I only needed a 2x6 to get up on it.

How sure are you that this is the same exact lift? I'm in the process of making a recess in my garage floor to accept the above Greg Smith Lift, after the 20% off coupon the HF will be $726.86 plus shipping (unless pick-up is an option) plus tax, vs $1375 (Fleabay price) plus tax since I'd pick-up in Indianapolis. Those are quite different dollars.

Just went through the specs, the HF lift is 99 3/4" long, the GS lift is 85" long. Since I've already cut my floor and have the Mini-Mix lined up etc. I'm pretty much tied into the GS lift.....:mad:. My guess they are pretty much the same thing. HECKUVA DEAL for anyone looking......:cheers:

I looked into the specs of the Harbor Freight vs. the Greg Smith one I linked and there are differences between the two, most notably the weight difference. Greg Smith's is 150 lbs. heavier (shipping weight) even though it is over a foot shorter in overall length lying flat.

I wonder if either of the H-F lifts will fit under our cars. They say the minimum height is 7" (with pads). The Greg Smith (Atlas) is 5 3/4". Also, H-F says it could take 5-17 weeks to get one. Still, the H-F with the 20% off is tempting - especially if my local store has one. I've got the H-F motorcycle lift for my Harley and say what you will about H-F quality, but it works great.

You would have to either recess the lift into the floor or build ramps out of 2 x lumber to clear the lift. I am going to purchase the Greg Smith lift and even at stock ride height a 993 or Boxster will not clear it.

Yes you are right, that HF lift is really a great deal right now.

So last night I decided to buy one but thought it best to wait and tell the better half before hitting the buy button. This morning the price has gone up. Bummer.

The $908 model went up to $1299 and the $608 model went to $959. Bummer. I was ready to pull the trigger this morning.

Seems like HF and other web sites where excellent deals are found have algorithms built in to raise prices if the page hits go up or sales of the product spike. Hmmm.

When I was indicating that they were the same unit, I meant to say the hydraulics are the same unit, the steel lift is different in construction but generally has the same set up. If the sale was still going, it would have been a killer deal to save on some cash. Money for money, I will still stick with Gregg Smith as the guys that have them here have had zero issues for years with their.

I have seen many folks who Dannmar units and they love them. The only draw back to post lifts is you need space to be able to have enough room to open your doors when not on the lift (deeper garage bay). That was the reason I have a scissor lift verses the post style. It was my first choice as they zero underside interference.

Would prefer to have one of these if only I had the room, plus the beefed up floor slab to take the bolts that are required to bolt the unit in place. Costco puts these on sale once or twice a year for less than $2k.

Does that dannmar have to b bolted down permanently?

No, you install permanent anchors in the floor and it can be removed and stored until needed again.

I've seen a few group buys put together last year on it for $1800, Costco also occasionally runs sales on it on their online site.

I talked to a couple of guys who had them on other P-Car websites, from what they said set-up time took longer than they initially expected but once the car was up they loved them. They also crowed a little about storage space when not in use.

You can use Hilti Quickbolt anchors that will allow you to bolt it down and then remove the nuts (leaving the bolt in place in the concrete) and remove the whole unit. Alternate idea would be to use drop in anchors (HDI's) wherein you leave the threaded unit in the concrete and use the bolt from the top down, this would leave you with a flat surface on your floor.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Luckily I saw your post in time to get it on sale so I ordered one, thinking even if I end up not using it I can probably sell it for what I paid for it. Another killer thing is that HB only charged me $6.99 for shipping so after that and taxes I only paid $778 for it, I don't think I could have beat that with a stick.

its not perfect for our cars, but not far from it.
make sure when you receive it, to have some friends (or a fork lift) to get it of the freight truck.

Is that at full rise Meir? and did you have any concerns about the "depth" of your concrete slab?

With 56" maximum Hight, I thing it's in the mid rise category.
Good enough for me, since I cannot get it to the max anyway.

The car was on the lift in the last month. No signs of something I should worry about ;)

That is still a great deal. While I putzed earlier this year the Greg Smith lift I purchased went up $100 due to steel prices jumping, my guess is HF units jumped also since they're all coming from the PRC.
