yeah, i bought the castrol deal. got the 10-40 for the porsche and the k&n filters for the wife's suv. 10qts and 2 filters for 68.00. it ended up being something like 4.25qt if you factor in the cost of the k&n filters.

Advanced Auto had a screaming weekend deal a few months back. 33% off. Oh wait but tha excluded the oil. But they specially priced the oil at $5.
Before the sale Castrol was nearly $9 per quart. I remember doing a double take, that would have been easily the most expensive oil change since 2004.

Different Walmarts carry different weights, in different brands to boot. I have to admit I've never searched for M1 0W-40 at Walmart since I ran a different brand when I had the Boxster, I found one store in my area carried Castrol Syntec in 10w40 which several years back seemed to be the "consensus" oil to run . Now that I have an air cooled P-Car Mobil One in 15w50 is what I look for, it is only handled currently by a store in the north end of town in 5 qt. jugs. If you get lucky and talk to someone willing to help in your local store they may order it in for you.

Mobil 1 does not bottle 0W-40 in 5 quart bottles. I have implored them to do so in several oil tech sessions.

I spotted a big jug at Wal-Mart this weekend (a store I avoid like the plague but unavoidable sometimes). I picked up the jug and read the label to be sure. It was the first time I'd ever seen a 40 weight on the shelf there, Castrol or Mobil 1 in either quart bottle or jug. Ditto for Costco, the Euro formula is tough to find. Even my Autozone doesn't always have at least 10 quarts of Castrol Edge 5-40 or 10-40.

again, to avoid controversy but just as an FYI for others to do their homework, I believe 0-40 is somewhat controversial for this engine according to the opinion of some engine experts who have posted here.

I'm glad you posted that PL, kind of second guessed myself when I read Paul's reply. I thought I had seen a jug of M1 in 0W40 in eastern Ohio, wasn't exactly sure but kind of remember being surprised to see it, can't swear to it now.

Yep, Castrol Syntec / Edge is what I would be running in a M96 motor if I still had one. I spent too many hours perusing the oil debates online, people who I considered "experts" more often than not suggested Castrol Syntec.

Regarding Walmart we are also in total agreement, you may be interested in reading "The Bully of Bentonville" by Anthony Bianco....rather eye opening. C'ya PL.......
