Changed the oil.
For the first time in it's life, it didn't get Mobil 1.
I put Shell Rotella T6 in (opinions not necessary I did my research). I did have some quiet ticking on cold start that I could also hear when warm and close to a building.

Nice and quiet, now. Seems more smooth overall, too.
Happy for now...we will see.

What I did today other than polishing my exhaust tips was to try and find the rattle I hear when shutting down the engine. I jacked the car from the rear and used my rubber hammer softly banging around on the muffler, the cats, and their heat shields, etc. I was not able to hear or see anything loose that would be making this noise. I first though something had broke loose inside the muffler. I might add I hear it sometime and sometimes I don't. It seems when back from a drive and everything is hot. Got me stumped!

I missed the "AND" in your opening statement...I read "changed the oil for the first time in it's life" and thought...WTF? It's funny how your brain can skip over a word that is so totally absolutely relevant; even worse, I must have read the post 5 times trying to figure out how you never changed the oil. Lol.

And now I await the obligatory oil comments....

Yeah, that was poorly written.

Turn the car off with the clutch pushed in, and report back.

Here is a no kidding statement a friend of mine said: " I never change the oil in my Car and have never had any maintenance done on it, I just drive it" he owns a Lexus convertible, not sure how the hell its still running, but I couldn't believe that statement as we were discussing having my car maintenance done. I am certainly gad to know not to purchase any machinery from him!!!!

Is your friend’s car a leased car that will become Certified Pre-Owned?

No rattling noise with the clutch in and turning off the engine.

It's your flywheel. I think a lot of these cars do the same thing.

A Porsche Tech said, it sounds like the flywheel. He said, sometime a spring jumps off the flywheel and it will cause the rattling. Now what I need to do is open up things and see. I can get a LUK DMF42 for just under $400.
I searched the forum for someone that may have had a rattling DMF, but no success.

On my way home from work I got hit in the windshield by a small rock that left a perfect five legged star, although the top one isn't visible in this picture, a little bigger than a quarter. My comprehensive insurance has glass coverage with a $50 deductible, I'll call them tomorrow and see if that means I can get a new windshield or if it only covers an injection that's supposed to keep the cracks from spreading. Luckily it's below my line out sight out the windshield.

What a shame! If it turns out you get a new windshield, who are you planning on replacing it?

I'm not sure. My independent Porsche specialist gave me the name of the glass guy they use. If it's covered by insurance I'll see if I have a choice of who to use, and then I'll go from there. I'm hoping to get a nice job done, no big globs or gaps between the glass and the interior trim on the inside and the outside trim fit nicely.. With 76,600 highway miles my windshield has so many small specks it looks like the milky way when I drive into direct sunlight anyway.

My windshield has a number of small specks too, So many trucks now on the highways with gravel, sand and other trash being carried to dumps, etc. You are lucky if a rock bounces off the windshield and don't leave a mark. I try and stay back several car lengths, like 10 or so. Road cracks leave small rock chips laying nearby and cause a lot of windshield damage.

Am I brave enough to tackle this job like Ben. It's a long way just getting there. Rear Bumper off, muffler off, transmission mounts has to come off, braces, etc. The Tech said today it's 7 hours of labor to replace the DMF.

Went out for a stress relieving night drive. Couldn't stop looking at her as I walked away. So much hotness happening all at once.
