Changed the spark plug tubes and cleaned up the mess the old ones made

I devised a simple tube removal tool from some strip aluminum that I had lying around. The benefit of this one is that it can be used without removing the spark plugs. It works great

And a before and after of the mess...

Well done sir. Does having the plugs in make it easier to get the new tubes and o-rings inserted?

Rennline

Bored waiting for our 4th of July cookout to start, so I ordered the Rennline pedals/deadpedal and HT extensions (silver pedals, black rubber dots, red HT) with the 10% 4th of July discount code directly from Rennline.

I have been thinking about some different pedals....What are the part #'s or item # you ordered....There are a number of pedals to choose from.....

Thanks!

Hi Lew, I ordered the accelator pedal cover rather than the mechanical pedal unit. The brake and clutch pedals require that you remove the oem rubber pads. I think the dead pedal just fits over the existing plastic piece. Mainly I wanted the look and I needed the toe extension for the throttle.

The part numbers I ordered are:

P71.60.59 SILVER Rennline Aluminum Pedal Set - 4 Piece
PE70_71HT RED Rennline Throttle Extension - Heel/Toe

I’ll post some comments and pics after install.

I don't think so, but it was easy, anyway. They came out and went in with no trouble.

I didn't want to take my plugs out because I just replaced them (that was when I discovered the leaking tubes) and taking them back out just seemed like extra work.

Gunk engine degreaser and a small dish brush, followed up with a Dawn scrub and clean water rinse. It was just a quick job on the heads so I could see if my new spark plug tubes leaked (took about 20 minutes per head and the tubes didn't leak ).

That is pretty innovative! I did not know you could remove the tubes without removing the spark plugs. I'd like a tool like that.

Refinished leather on my XNE steering wheel, using Leather Magic kit.

Leather around 10 o’clock got worn down and became rough and sticky especially under high humidity... so applied flexible artificial leather patch to fill a small hole and beef up thinned area before coloring. Hope it lasts another 20 years!

Also fixed a stripped nut securing the engine access panel with a nut-sert, easy job and it’s tight now!

Thread should be 'what did you try to do to your Boxster today?'

Unpacked and set up my 3 Ton HF low profile jack so I could inspect the brakes...etc.
Went to loosen the rear wheels, and apparently the shop, which had just replaced one inner CV must've used an impact gun to put the wheels on. I only had a 19mm socket in 3/8, and ended up shearing my Kobalt 1/2-3/8 reducer. So I then tried to use the socket from the tool kit, and ended up busting the side out of it.
This happened to me on my VW TDI. I had it in for a 80K service at dealer and they advised me I needed brakes. I told them I do my own. After splitting the end of a 1/2" extension, I also stripped two lock sockets. My buddy had to come over with his 3/4" sockets and a huge breaker bar.
I did install a new set of wiper blades and tested the rain sensor.

Today I drove 440 miles in my Boxster from home in NJ to Mont Tremblant. I’ll be doing an HPDE here the next 3 days. Will drive down to Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday evening and the rest of the way home on Monday.

Took the cover off the 964 and moved it out of storage. I took a few photos of the 964 and 986 together. It surprised me how much larger the 986 looks from behind. It might partly have to do with the contrast in color between Arctic Silver and Slate Grey. I never realized how much higher the taillights are on the 986.
Both are now cleaned up and ready for the weekend!
