What did you do with/to your Boxster today?

After a few months, I called my insurance back and asked about options. They said I could have the window replaced, but I would have to pay the deductible....a whopping $100. Wish I knew this before I even dealt with a repair. As an FYI, the shop doing the work will probably want to use an aftermarket windshield, but when I asked how much an OEM would cost, it was the same (out of pocket) price...umm, that was a no-brainier. Just FYI.

Just put on another set of rims and tires on my boxster. The old turbo twists date the car and new ones make it a bit more modern. I’d upload a picture but don’t know how to from my iPhone and everything seems bigger then 2mb

You need to convert from iphone format to a gif or jpeg.

Thanks, I’m getting a new windshield for a $50 deductible. The company I’m going to use is the shop that my independent Porsche garage uses. I’ll ask him about a Porsche windshield, is there a big difference in quality between OEM and aftermarket? How many manufacturers of Boxster glass are there?

There is a thread somewhere that discussed this. Indications are that the OEM is somewhat 'softer' glass than some after market. I had mine replaced 2 years ago under insurance and the installer went with Pilkington. So far the windshield is holding up well even with the horrible rock strewn roads I drive on here in Manitoba. My old windshield was 'sand blasted' with all kinds of pits and chips but then again it was 13 years old.

I found through experience that there is a HUGE range in quality in aftermarket windshields. Many (many, many) years ago I had replacement that was like looking through wavy fish tank glass...it was horrid. I can't speak to what quality replacements are, but the way I saw it, I knew what I would get with OEM. Also, I was told (and might be incorrect) the OEM is Saint-Gobain Sekurit.

Thanks, I’m going to ask my glass guy what he plans to use on Monday when I schedule it. He comes recommended from my independent Porsche specialist so
I feel comfortable with his recommendations. Also, the “star” I had In my windshield Thursday night becas a 6 inch horizontal crack all on its own while the car was parked on Friday. I went out for a drive in it today and the crack didn’t get any longer, but I’m curious to see if it grows some more tonight.

Did you follow the fluid fill steps exactly? It requires a fill, get to temp, check again, top-off, get to temp, check again and so forth.

I'm getting my new windshield on Tuesday. I went to the dealership and bought the 2 piece windshield trim exterior seal for the Boxster S with the titanium plastic and the black rubber. My windshield guy only had a one piece black rubber seal and I didn't want to do that, since my hardtop has the same 2 piece seal with black and titanium on the back window.

Degrease / Wash / clay / wax, then vacuumed the roof and cleaned the inside. Long overdue for this season, but it looks new-ish. I need to do a real polishing sometime soon, and refinish (replace) my wheels.

Went to the bottle bank, it’s about 15 mins walk there and back. Unfortunately I drove so it took about 2 hours. The car just wanted to go the opposite direction???

Don’t know if this helps as my experience is with the euro system exhaust but you never know.

It was easy to identify the large ones on top of the cats but there are others before the cats around the O2 sensor. These are spot welded on but on mine the welds has rotted away. Real annoying little rattle at a certain rev / resonance.

I cut them off when I had the cats out which is another story. Hasn’t had any effect on anything that I can tell and passed the emmisons test with excellent results.

Did an autocross with the local PCA region. My second for the year (or ever), and turned in better times than before.
