How long do you plan on keeping your Boxster?

Want to pose a question...

As I have been working on my 98' some of the changes I have been doing I know would be met with skepticism/criticism as they are not considered a value based modification. I own my car lock stock and barrel and I will drive her till the day the wheels fall off.

As you work on your Boxster, do you do the work to retain resale or because you simply do it for your own tastes and desire?

"Wheels fall off" NEVER!!
I work on my Boxster for the enjoyment, I have no plans to get rid of it. I have owned it over 8 years and enjoyed every minute of it.

I got my 2000 986 'S' in Nov 2010. I usually keep a car about two years but I'm thinking I'll have this one for some time. I work on it because I enjoy it. I have replaced so many things that didn't need to be. I did them because I felt like it. I know for a fact if I sell it I'll never get my money back but some one sure will get a bullet proof car!! If I were going to buy an older Boxster I would jump at the chance to buy one like mine, I even would be willing to pay extra.

I recently purchased a 2007 Base with very low miles. This one is for showing and enjoying, I won't be modifying or replacing anything. I've said I'll keep it a year but she will be hard to give up...we'll see.

Voted for mods are for me! I really enjoy wrenching on my cars and I think I keep this one for about 4 more years for a total of 6. After that I think One of my kids will drive the "box" because I think I could not sell my baby...........

I expect to sell my car in the spring. I've had it for a year now. Loved every minute of it! However, may be in a position to not need it for several +years. May as well sell it so it doesn't decay from non-use.

I generally do maintenance for reliability and "mods" for my own personal preference. Yeah, I know I've got more in my car than I could sell it for. But it has been worth it. I expect to lose about $4-6K worth of "value" when I sell it vs the total amount of money I've spent buying/maintaining/modding it.

I plan on keeping my 1999 boxster forever, had it for 10 years now. I've Done some upgrades Glass rear window, turbo front bumper, speedster humps and a ton of custom painted interior trim pieces. Every time i feel my car looks old or dated... i do another upgrade and enjoy every minute of it

I believe I will have the car a long time, my dad loved driving Saab turbos into his late seventies so I hope my genetics of driving joy are embedded and long lasting. I loved modding the 986, IMO, the spyder is choice right out of the factory, I have no plans to do any mods just persistent, correctly performed, maintenance.

My car has 155,000 miles, 6 years of racing, and more mods than I can remember. Nobody but me would even want my car!

Kept my last sportscar for 24 years and it wasn't nearly as fun to drive as my Boxster S. Will keep this one as long as I enjoy it.

Getting the IMS done currently - I plan to keep her until she falls apart, and I'm going to do as much as I can to make sure that's a LONG time from now. SWMBO made it pretty clear that I better not need another car for a while :P

I'll keep it as long as I'm enjoying it, so probably till it or I die.

On second thought if it dies first, its a good excuse to put in a 3.4l engine.

well since I owe more on the car than what it is worth...and am now putting a fabspeed exhaust and new tires on it...looks like I will have it for about ever. It is not quick enough for me, but gets the job done and I dont race it. Great car to have some fun in. Each year I will do some major mods to it as money permits. First was tires and exhaust to make it sound better.

Next year, Wheels powder coated Black and a new top with glass window. As well will do the clutch and IMS.

Year after that..probably have the front end resprayed. It is in great shape but a couple chips and stuff that do not go with the rest of the car.

After that...anything necessary to keep it running like it does.

I'm in it for the long haul.

I had a speedster - 356 for about a year and sold it...it was not as much fun as this one. Got more looks for sure...couldnt take it out without someone stopping me, but this one is sleek and classy and for it being 10 years old...basically looks new!

When I bought this car 7 years ago it was supposed to be just a 2 year toy. I have been sucked into the vortex. Maybe a Cay S PDK in a few years if I don't blow all my cash on fast women.

I am going to sell it to my granddaughter for $1.00 when she turns 17.
A couple of weeks ago a brand new, white 981 parked next to me at a shopping center lot.
The owner got out and was admiring my car. He asked a bunch of questions about it and finally asked: "Do you want to trade?"
I immediately said: "no way!"
He looked puzzled and said: "you're crazy"
I responded: "look, with $70,000 I can buy your car, but you can't buy mine for any amount"
BTW, my granddaughter just turned four.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

How long will I keep it?

I love the car; no rush to sell. I recognize I can't get my money back out of it today or ten years down the road. I will sell it eventually but that is closely tied to when the price of a used 981 and my discretionary income intersect.
