Decal on steering wheel

Hello to all

I have the 4 spoke steering wheel on my base 2000 MY. It has the Porsche crest indented (imprinted) on the wheel. I think it looks really cheap. I would like to put a metal colored crest on the wheel over the top of the imprinted one. Any one do this before? If so how would you attach it. Anyone have a source for the right size crest.

Appreciate any comments or help.

Be careful the airbag is liable to imprint the badge on your face.

I was worried about that, too, but I really, really want a real crest on my wheel!

I bought a nice metal one for the 986, had the same thoughts about the airbag which are totally legitimate given the violent nature of deployment. What really stopped me from mounting it was the look of it sitting on top of the pad instead of being integrated into it. The badge ended up on a button in the house that activates the detached garage door, a homage to Pee Wee's secret keypad to access his bike.

It's not too bad. You'll need a torx bit in a ratchet to get the screws out of the back. I'm sure there's a DIY guide around here somewhere as I remember using one when I changed mine, but that was a couple of years ago.

A couple of important points:

- You need to disconnect the battery at least half an hour before you start work as unexpected deployment of the airbag can be startling.

- If you have the factory radio you will need the code to get it working again after disconnecting the battery.
